This book was recently purchased for both of my children. My 6 1/2 year old still needed a little bit of refresher courses with his alphabet, and my youngest son (3) is at that age where he loves to try and read to you by the pictures in the books. So Major League Baseball A B C is a great book to provide both of them with the help they need.
Baseball A B C is a board book that consists of 32 useful pages filled with bright colorful letters of the alphabet and pictures relating to baseball for the letter it is showing. The other 4 pages in the book are just the covers and the publishing information. The book measures about 6 inches by 4 inches and each page is made from heavy cardboard material with a glossy finish. With the cardboard, the book would need to endure plenty of mishaps before it became detached from the binding.
All of the pictures in this book are actual photos taken at one time or another. There are no animated drawings or sketches of any sort. Some of these pictures will not only introduce your child to the different things of baseball, but Mom & Dad may also find some pretty interesting photos. For instance, I never knew what a World Series Ring looked like up-close, but when you look under W you will see one there.
Each letter of the alphabet has 1 page dedicated to that letter. Some letters have 2 pages filled with photos. But there are at least 2 pictures per letter. And some of the pictures feature real baseball players like Derek Jeter & Mark McGwire. That can be another plus for the little baseball fans.
Not only is this board book a great way to teach the alphabet and what words start with what letter, but it also a great learning tool for any young baseball player who still plays T-ball or farm league. They can learn stuff about baseball that they will need to know later on as they advance in Little League. For example, under B they can see what a Bunt is, D offers a picture of a Donut used on bats, and W lets you see a Windup & a Wall picture of a pitcher preparing to pitch a ball.
Even if your child does not play baseball and just likes to watch it on occasions, they will still enjoy this book with its pictures. I am happy to say that Baseball A B C helped my oldest son with his letter recognition and is still helping my youngest son with his speech and the learning of the alphabet.
