My husband and I had owned the same mattress for seven years. It was time to purchase a new one. This was not something I was looking forward too. I went from store to store testing beds. It was really hard for me to get comfortable in any store on any bed. The more beds I tried the more confused I got as to what I really wanted or needed. I just did not know how to compare mattresses, they all seemed comfortable to me. Yes some were more firm then others but I found it very difficult to shop for a new mattress. I came across the Bassett Ultra Plush Mattress Set. It was mid-range priced and I liked the ultra-plush top. I bugged my husband for about two weeks to go try it out and he never did so I ended up purchasing it without him testing it too.
I brought it home and my husband set it up. The Bassett Ultra Plush Mattress is a white mattress with orthozone foam that is said to provide exceptional pressure point relief. The mattress comes in twin, full, queen, king and cal king. I purchased the queen size as that is the frame we had. The mattress measures 60” x 80” and is 16.5” high. The quilted top of the mattress is made of one ounce of flame guard fiber, ½” comfort foam and 2 ½” convoluted comfort foam. The padding layers are made up of 1 ½” super soft comfort foam, 2” super soft comfort foam, versare inner panel, 2 ½” comfort zoned foam and a versare insulator. The coil gage is 13.75 with the queen mattress having 713 coils.
My husband was able to set the mattress on our box spring without any issues. It fitted perfectly on our queen size frame.
The one thing that I liked in the store was the ultra-plush topping. This turned out to be the one thing I hated about the bed. The plush topping was comfortable at first but within a year starting showing indents. The top started to mat down where my husband and I sleep. We both sleep in the same spot and don’t move around much and it was clear on this bed where each of us slept. We now have owned the mattress for a little over two years and there are very clear and definite impresses on the mattress top. Since the mattress has the plush topping you cannot flip the bed. We did try rotating this but this was even more uncomfortable because of the impressions that were in the bed. It also makes it very uncomfortable when I am the only one in bed. I like to spread out when I am the only one in bed and this hurts my back now because of the dents and lumps in our mattress. Not only does this make it uncomfortable if you don’t sleep in your impression but it also doesn’t look nice either. My son always laughs because my husband is much bigger than I am and you can distinctly tell who sleeps on which side of the bed. There is also a middle hump in the bed as no one sleeps in the middle.
I paid $799 for the Bassett Ultra Plush Mattress. At the time I thought it was a good price for a mattress as I was hoping it would last us five years. Since we started having issues with the mattress after only a year, this has not turned out to be a good purchase.
The Bassett Ultra Plush Mattress does come with a ten year warranty but it is against manufactures defects.
I wanted to love the Bassett Ultra Plush Mattress. It was comfortable at first. I did have to purchase all new sheets for the ultra-plush mattress because the sides were higher than our old mattress and the old sheets would not stay on. This was not an issue but something I wish I would have known before purchasing the mattress.
For what I paid for the mattress I was hoping to get more than two years wear out of it. Unfortunately the indents are so bad that I once again need to start searching for a new mattress.
Unless you have the money to purchase a new mattress every year or two I would not recommend the Bassett Ultra Plush Mattress Set.
