I think it's a shame people don't really read these anymore. If nothing else, they bring history alive in characters that readers - especially younger ones - can care about.

Thanks for the comment!

Funniest thing that ever happened in my family: (Reply to this comment)

I asked my mother, "Where's THE BASTARD?" and she told me where my father was. And she still swears she knew I meant the book, and was joking. And we still don't believe her.

Great review!

I read all eight books when they came out and loved them. I passed them on to a friend and now I wish I could read them again. TO THE LIBRARY!!!

I read all the books many years ago and started going through them again recently. Eventually I'll review all of them - right now I'm on the 2nd one.

Amazing how well they hold up. I do remember the mini-series - Andrew Stevens was Philip.

Thanks for the comment

I Remember - (Reply to this comment)

reading this series years ago. I enjoyed The Bastard - the second book was OK = the third book lost steam - and the fourth (and last, for me) left me cold. In the movie I remember when the hero was caught in the haystack with two girls, the girls were bare, but the hero was fully clothed - the things one remembers. Well, anyway, yours was a very good review, and I thank you for making me recall that first story.
