When your baby learns to reach and bat at objects, a whole new level of comprehension and physical achievement is beginning. This colorful ball encourages and rewards those actions. It wiggles and wobbles, and plays lively music while two flutterballs roll around inside. Flashing lights add to babys delight. - from Fisher-PriceI had seen the Fisher-Price Bat n Wobble Ball in the store time and time again, but never picked it up. I went to a friends yard sale a few weeks ago and my older daughter Miranda (18 months) became enamored with this ball. It was hardly a dent to the wallet, so I went ahead and bought it.
The Fisher-Price Bat n Wobble Ball is designed for ages 6 months+. The retail value is $12. I have recently seen it at Target however, packaged along with the Fisher-Price Sit & Pound Arcade, only $14.95 for the set! It has an on/off switch and 2 volume settings (loud and loudER!). It takes 3 AA batteries, and a Phillips screwdriver is required for battery replacement.
Fisher-Price claims the following developmental benefits from the Fisher-Price Bat n Wobble Ball - Fine Motor Skills, Gross Motor Skills, Cause & Effect, Curiosity, and Visual and Auditory Stimulation.
Both of my daughters (ages 18 months and 7 months) seem to love this ball. In fact, they have been fighting over it (as much as babies that age can!) since we got it home. I, however, have some concerns.
Its designed to play approximately 20-30 seconds of music when rolls, shook, or otherwise stimulated. The problem is that the Fisher-Price Bat n Wobble Ball is way too sensitive! If I dont turn it off entirely, it will go off on its own when nobody (and nothing!) is around it! The wind? Ghosts? Who knows.
It only plays one song, and that can get quite repetitive. I am concerned that my babies small hands will get stuck, since they both are dead set on getting the flutterballs OUT of the ball itself. The Fisher-Price Bat n Wobble Ball is definitely meant for rolling, NOT throwing which is how my older daughter Miranda would prefer to play with it! It is heavy, and hits very hard on the ground even just on the carpet. I wonder how long it will be before she breaks it. I will have to update on its long-term durability after awhile. We have had it second-hand for several weeks now though, and shes been throwing it forcefully onto the tile floor at least 10 times a day, no exaggeration, and I havent noticed any problems yet. With the ball that is. My floor is taking a beating!
Overall, I think that if you buy the package deal or find this at a yard sale, its not a bad toy. I just dont think it has enough positive qualities to warrant purchasing it on its own regardless of how well my children enjoy it.
