Pros:Makes skin glow; softens and scents skin; nice packaging
Cons:Glow and softness don't last more than a few hours; small bottle; expensive
The Bottom Line: This is a nice, luxurious product that adds a hint of glowing shimmer, softness and scent to the skin. Get it before it's discontinued!
I always seem to be the recipient of Bath & Body Works products - for just about every birthday and holiday, I end up with a new product of theirs. I don't like all the scents - in fact, I despise a few of them! The two I probably dislike the most are Cucumber Melon and White Tea & Ginger. So I wasn't too happy when I was the recipient recently of a bottle of Bath & Body Works Purely Silk Body Lustre in the Cucumber Melon scent - but I've grown to really like the Body Lustre and now I don't want to give it up, no matter what scent it is!

Body Lustre is part of the Purely Silk line. I have to wonder if the Body Lustre is discontinued at this point, because it is not shown as part of the Purely Silk line on Bath & Body Works' website. However, the Manager at my local Bath & Body Works store tells me this is not the case. The Purely Silk line also includes a Salt Scrub, Body Lotion and Body Splash.
Body Lustre comes in a 2.5 oz., 6.5" tall glass bottle. The bottle is curved, and is tinted according to the scent you purchase. For example, my bottle of Body Lustre in the Cucumber Melon scent is tinted a pale green. This product is available only in the 2.5 oz. size. It has a pump top that also unscrews so you can pour the Body Lustre out if you want to.
The Body Lustre is a scented, creamy lotion-like substance that is loaded with shimmer. The shimmer particles aren't glitter or even micro-glitter. It reminds me of what crushed pearls would look like. The shimmer has a pearly white/silver appearance and is very smooth. I expected it to be gritty but it isn't gritty at all.
This product is available in several scents (or at least it was available in several scents!) - among them are Cucumber Melon, Moonlight Path, Warm Vanilla Sugar, Sweet Pea and Sun-Ripened Raspberry. I hesitate to name too many, as Bath & Body Works tends to discontinue many of their scents quickly.
Directions For Use (taken from packaging):
After moisturizing with Purely Silk Body Lotion, smooth Body Lustre over skin for a radiant finish.
Ingredients (taken from packaging for Cucumber Melon scent):
Cyclomethicone, cyclopentasilioxane, dimethicone crosspolymer, isopropyl myristate, dimethiconol, fragrance, mica, silk powder, cucumber fruit extract, melon fruit extract, phenoxyethanol, isopropylparaben, isobutylparaben, butylparaben, titanium dioxide.
From the beginning, I really liked the look that Body Lustre gave my skin. I still don't like the Cucumber Melon scent, but I do like the soft glow that it gives my skin.
The way that I use it is to pump out a small amount (about the size of a quarter) and smooth it onto my arms, neck, shoulders, and any other body part that might be seen. I sometimes wear it to work (the shimmery glow is definitely subtle enough to wear to work), but pretty much the only places that are seen would be my neck, part of my chest, arms and hands. I tend to put it all over my body on the weekends, but don't want to waste it on my legs and feet on a workday.
Body Lustre definitely adds a subtle shimmer and a bit of softness. It is also fairly strongly scented. It most definitely prolongs the scent you are wearing. I can smell Cucumber Melon on myself long into the day, but it does fade after about 4 hours or so. The softness and the shimmer also fade. I think it just wears off - the shimmer must wear off by everyday movement and the removing of coats, etc. - and the softness goes with it.
In case you are thinking that this product might be like the shimmery lotions that are out there (Nivea or Jergens), this is different. The shimmer is pearly white/silver instead of gold, and this isn't a moisturizing lotion. You wouldn't want to use Body Lustre in place of a moisturizing lotion.
I don't use this product with the other products in the Purely Silk line. I've tried the other products and don't like them - so I'll never use them again. I get similar results - softness and radiance - by putting Body Lustre over whatever brand and/or scent of lotion I'm using.
Another way that I have used this product is to put a small amount in my hands, rub my hands together and then smooth it through my hair. It adds a tiny bit of shimmer - I hesitate to use too much because I'm afraid it will weigh down my curly hair - but it's a nice way to get the scent and a tiny bit of shimmer into your hair.
Price and Purchasing Information:
A bottle of Body Lustre is $16.50. This seems pricey to me. In fact, the entire Purely Silk line seems pricey to me. Since a little goes a long way, this product isn't that bad of a buy.
Bath & Body Works products are available only at their brick and mortar stores and are not available for purchase online.
