| jubrismom's Full Review: Bath Boutique Barbie - Brunette |
Barbies, Barbies, and more Barbies. My house is filled them. On Barbies there is the little not that states "Not for children under 3 years". Apparently that means, at least to my family, that once a little girl turns three she must have Barbies. So, at her recent birthday party she unwrapped Barbie after Barbie after Barbie. Not just dolls though. The tea sets, animals, cars, etc... This is just one of the many dolls.
WHAT DO YOU GET
*BARBIE: This Barbie is pretty standard issue. Instead of long blond hair though, she has long brown hair. And instead of blue eyes, she has brown. Not just plain brown though. More of a speckly brown with gold accents.
*CLOTHING: Barbie comes wearing her "lingerie", bath robe, and slippers.
Her lingerie looks like a two piece swimming suit. The items are bright pink, with a yellow and a white stripe at the bottom of the top piece, and the top of the bottom piece. Each piece is held closed by a small piece of velcro on the back. No small snaps!
The bath robe is made to look like a typical terry cloth bath robe. Although only knee length. It is trimmed in the same bright pink as the lingerie.
The slippers are white cotton, sewn with the same bright pink thread as used in the other clothing.
*BUBBLE BATH SOLUTION: A 2 ounce container of Barbie Bubble Bath is included. In the bottle it is a blue color. There is a flip top and squirt "lid".
Labeling:
The front middle of the label features the Barbie logo in pink, below a bunch of flowers.
On the side label are directions for using the bubble bath. "DIRECTIONS: Pour half of the bath solution into the tub under running water. Thoroughly mix with water before entering tub. As with all bath products, adult supervision is recommended."
On the other side there is a warning. "CAUTION: Use only as directed. Excessive use or prolonged exposure may cause irritation to skin and urinary tract. Discontinue use if rash, redness, or itching occurs."
*ACCESSORIES: Barbie comes with two of her own plastic miniature sized shampoo bottles. These do not contain anything.
OUR EXPERIENCE
Brianna could not wait to take a bath with Barbie. But, before you can play with Barbie in the bath tub, you have to remove her from her box. Never let it be said that Barbie is not packaged well. She is tied in, taped in and sewed in, with great care for her safety during transportation. I recommend arming yourself with a pair of scissors, sharp and small preferably, as well as ear plugs to drown out the sound of a three year old yelling "is she ready yet" as you try to remove Barbie from her box. Finally, though, Barbie is free from her many restraints and ready to play.
So, off to the tub we went. Brianna sat on her footstool patiently as I began to run the bath water. Once I was sure it was at the right temperature, I began to add the Barbie bubble bath solution.
I followed the directions and poured half of the solution in, under the running water. And saw very few, very small bubbles. It was more foamy looking than anything else. Brianna was watching and kept asking where the big bubbles were. Not one to give up easily I decided to continue following the directions, and used my hands to mix to ensure the bubble solution and water were well mixed. There did seem to be more bubbles, but not much. And not at any point were there enough bubbles to cover all of the water.
While I was preparing the tub water and bubbles, Brianna was undressing Barbie, getting her ready for her bath. At the age of three, she had no problem removing Barbies slippers, robe, and lingerie. While Barbie may be able to bathe with her lingerie on if you prefer, Brianna prefers her dolls to bathe in their birthday suits. Part of the reason she was so easily able to remove Barbie's clothing, is because of the wonderful velcro closures on the lingerie. Back when I was little Barbie clothes were filled with the tiniest snaps I'd ever seen. Velcro is a great invention!
In the tub went the naked Barbie and three year old. Brianna immediately set to washing Barbies hair. There were more bubbles from the very thorough hair washings Barbie received than there ever was from the bubble bath solution. Brianna very much enjoyed hers and Barbie's bath.
After bathing Brianna and Barbie were both wrapped in a towel and dried off. As I brushed out Brianna's hair she brushed out Barbie's hair. Once their hair was brushed and Brianna was dressed, she set out to dress Barbie. She did need some help getting Barbie's lingerie back on her, but was able to do the robe and slippers by herself.
Bath time was done, Brianna was happy, and Mommy was happy. What more could we ask for.
PROS
*Brunette Barbie: While this may not be a big deal to some I really try to have my daughters doll collections very diverse. So, a brunette Barbie among the many blonds is a welcome addition.
*Velcro on clothing, not tiny snaps: It used to be so difficult to snap and unsnap those tiny things. The velcro is much easier to use, and will be easier to repair/replace if necessary.
*Easy to remove clothing and redress Barbie. So even a toddler/preschooler can do it themselves.
CONS
*Poor quality bubble bath solution: Even if you dump in the entire container you more of a very small foam in the water that is gone within a minute than bubbles.
*Half a bottle of bubbles per bath! Which means you could at most get two baths out of the included bubble solution.
MY THOUGHTS
We really have enjoyed bath time with Barbie. My daughter has even started using a bath robe after her bath simply so she can dress like Barbie. We ended up with a children's bath robe that is made out of a towel, and it actually works better after her bath than an ordinary towel.
Our pediatrician does not recommend bubble baths because they can cause irritation to the urinary tract, which can also lead to urinary tract infections. So, while we did try the bubbles one time, we will not be trying them again.
On the practical side, this Barbie does nothing fancy. She simply is advertised to go in the bath tub, which any other Barbie could do as well. She does not have special hair. She is not even water proof, so make sure no water remains in her after the bath. You could just buy a Barbie clothing set, or even make one, for her to wear in the bath tub.
However, my mom says she only paid about $10.00 for this Barbie and at that price she is well worth it.
