| junebugz's Full Review: Battery Technology Nextel-Motorola I1000 Battery L... |
This will be a rather short review just because, how much can you really say about a battery ...
The i1000plus seems to be the Motorola phone which has the most problems with batteries. This is my experience after working for a company and being in charge of their Nextel phones for over 2 years now and selling them for over 1 year now.
So, first off, if your i1000 is getting a little old and doesn't have the kick too it which it used to have, it may be time to trade up. This will eliminate the battery problem all together.
Anyway, on to the battery subject. The i1000plus battery seems to get worn/corroded quicker or more easily than other Nextel phones. As long as you don't mind taking the battery off every so often and getting out a pencil eraser, you can use the batteries for quite a long time. The nice thing about these Nextel made batteries is that they are lithium ion. This means they will not get a "memory" from charging it up before it is completely drained.
When I say the battery gets worn easily, if you take the battery off the back of the phone, if it has been there for some time you will probably see some black marks where it touches the contacts attached to the phone. (There may be spots on the contacts attached to the phone as well). If you take a pencil eraser (this is a old, well-known trick) you can remove that "wear" from the contacts of both the phone and the battery. However, be careful not to bend the contacts on the phone. Doing this will help eliminate problems such as ... phone shutting off when talking or answering a call, scrolling through list, etc.
Also, it is a good idea not to remove the battery very often because the more it is removed it helps wear on the "clip" which holds it in place. I have seen a few cases where the clip is either worn or not made properly and you can move the battery to such an extent that the phone will power off when you touch the battery or back of the phone. This is more rare than having to do the pencil eraser trick, but it does happen.
It seems to me, the Nextel made batteries have the "clip" problem more than the Motorola batteris, but they both have the pencil eraser problem over time. And the longer you have the battery the more you will have to use the eraser.
Anyway, the newer phones (i60,i90,i95) all have an enclosed battery which is also a lithium ion and does not seem to have nearly as many problems.
So my recommendation is to switch phones if you can and get all the new features, or buy the Motorola battery since it will be a more reliable solution for your phone. That is, if you have an extra $20 or so.
Well, have a great day and read up on my other review of Nextel phones if you would like.
Thanks!
