I've been wearing Contact Lenses since I was 13 years old. Yes I started young. My mother took pity on me because I was entering Junior High School and had the infamous "coke bottle glasses". Thank GOD for contact lenses! Anyway, for whatever reason (maybe hormones and having 2 babies?) my eyes seem to be more on the dry side over the last few years. My contacts bother me if I have them in for longer than a few hours. This has caused me to resort to wearing my glasses more often again (don't worry, I don't leave home with them on). So when I saw the advertisements for the new "MoistureLoc" Solution, I decided to give it a try.

The Product: Bausch & Lomb ReNu with MoistureLoc Multi Purpose Solution
This product comes packaged in 2 size bottles. The large 12 ounce bottle, or a smaller 4 ounce bottle. As with most of the ReNu saline solutions, this one is marketed as a "no rub" solution. It is to be used for cleaning, disinfecting, rinsing and storing contact lenses.
I won't bore you with the ingredient listing for this product, but I do want to mention the ingredient that makes this product unique. The "MoistureLoc" ingredient, is technically known as "poloxamer, polyquaternium-10" and the patent is pending on the formula. According to Bausch & Lomb, this ingredient provides the following benefits:
- Retains Moisture for Sustained Comfort
- Inhibits Deposits
Directions for use (taken from bottle): "Thoroughly rinse each side of the lense (5 seconds) and then store in lens case for at least 4 hours"
Well using this solution is just as easy as with any solution. I simply replaced my old solution with this one and I use it for rinsing, cleaning and storage. I didn't quite know what to expect when I bought my first bottle. I think I almost expected something thicker in texture? I don't know. But anyway, the solution feels just like any other saline solution, it's like water.
I was quite skeptical of how it would live up to the hype in the advertisements. But considering my dilemma of having continuous dryness with my contact lenses, I decided I had nothing to lose, except possibly a few bucks.
When I was ready to use this for the first time, I removed my contact lenses and rinsed them in the new solution and stored them in it as well. They soaked overnight and I put my contact lenses into my eyes the next day. I did notice an immediate difference in the comfort when I first placed them into my eyes. I was impressed, but still hopeful that the product would help out with my dryness over the course of the next several hours.
I usually keep a bottle of eye drops handy because of my dry eye issues, but I found out that I didn't need them quite as soon as I normally would during the day.
I've been using this solution for a while now (over a month) and my contact lenses most certainly wear more comfortably now. I can go hours without them bothering me and I don't have to fool with eye drops every half hour or so anymore. The solution seems to build a barrier of moisture around the lenses and it keeps them from drying out so rapidly. This has really impressed me since I'm so used to discomfort after a few hours of wearing my lenses. Now I can wear them all day without any problems. I do have to say though, if I have them in for longer than 8-10 hours, they do start to bother me, but I'll take that result anyday. Before I began using this solution, my contacts would start to really bother my eyes after only 2-3 hours. So I have definitely seen a big difference.
The solution works just fine for cleaning and storage also. I haven't had any problems with it burning my eyes or anything.
As for the claim that it helps prevent deposit build up on contact lenses, I can't really comment yet. I have really rapid chemical build up for some reason, and so I can't really tell if this has slowed the process down with my lenses because they are several months old and need to be replaced. Once I use the product with a BRAND new set of contact lenses I will be better able to tell if this claim holds true. I am excited to see if it does turn out to be true. I wear the type of lenses that are supposed to last a year, but I can only wear them 6 months due to my rapid chemical build up, so if this solution slows that process down, it will save me some cash in the long run. We shall see......
Overall I'm very happy with this solution and will continue to purchase it. It really has helped me with the dryness problems I was having with my contact lenses. If you have dry eyes and you wear contacts, or if your contacts seem to bother you after a few hours, I recommend that you try this ReNu with MoistureLoc Solution.
I purchase my solution at my local Walmart, but I'm sure that it is available at any drugstore or retailer that carries contact lens supplies. I have purchased both the small and large bottles. The small bottle runs between $3 and $4 and the large bottle is about $7. The big bottle is a better value but the small bottle is nice to have for traveling.
You can even go to the manufacturer website right now and request a FREE SAMPLE! What a great way to try this out first....
