Pros: Easy to use granules that spread evenly and almost dust free.
I spend a lot of time, effort, and money to keep a nice lawn. I want a lush green carpet of grass unhindered by crab grass, dandelions, clover, or any other broad leaf weeds. Can you imagine my horror to get up one morning and find that a mole had visited my beautiful lawn. I knew I had to act fast or else he and his family will decide to stay and my lawn would be history.
Before you can treat a problem you have to determine what is the cause of the problem. The only reason a mole comes to your lawn and stays is to feed, They don't do anything else. If there's food they stay and eat, if not they leave. I went out back and lifted several sections of sod and sure enough I found grubs (also known as mole "Food of Choice")
There are many different products on the market that claim they have the cure for grubs. All major companies like Scotts, Ortho, and Bayer produce a produce that all claim to have the cure to my problem. I had never seen Bayer before this shopping trip but I picked up a bag and read the instructions. The brand I purchased was Bayer Advanced Lawn 24 Hour Grub Killer Ready-To-Spread Granules.
It couldn't have been simpler, just pour a bag into my broadcast spreader, set the distribution dial to 3 and off I went. Each bag covers approximately 5,000 square feet. I needed two to get all around the yard. It wasn't cheap at a cost of $22.95 each but if it got rid of the grubs and subsequently the moles it would be well worth the money.
Waiting for Results
I got home from work at around 5:00 p.m. and after changing from my work clothes, I went out and applied the Bayer Advanced Lawn 24 Hour Grub Killer Ready-To-Spread Granules. I couldn't wait until the next night to find out if this product did as it claimed.
The next night I went out and lifted a couple of patches of sod and found no grubs. This wasn't the result I was looking for. What I needed was dead grubs and I finally got them. In the next three pieces of turf I lifted, I found grubs that were dead. This made me feel secure that soon I wouldn't have any more moles. Like I said earlier, no grubs equals no moles. I went around and stamped down all the mole runs in the yard and would check them over the next several days to see if there was any action in any of them. I say one run being used the next night but from then on there were none.
It's been two weeks now and it looks like the moles have moved on. I sort of felt a little guilty because I know they must have gone to a neighbors lawn. Hope they have some Bayer Advanced Lawn 24 Hour Grub Killer Ready-To-Spread Granules to get rid of their grubs like I did.
I recommend Bayer Advanced Lawn 24 Hour Grub Killer Ready-To-Spread Granules to anyone who has grub problems in their lawn. Also if you have Mole Crickets (whatever they are, but it says that they will be killed too).
Two warnings. First, if you have a pet and have a reserved area that you allow them to be, avoid spreading any pesticide in this area because it isn't healthy for your pet. Second, after applying take shower to remove any dust or granules. You don't want to let any be absorbed through your skin. Also hose off your spreader to remove any residue.
