| phineaskc's Full Review: Bayer Advantage |
Two years ago we started experiencing problems with fleas on our pets. Our Vet informed us that the flea infestation was particularly bad that year because we did not have a hard freeze and because of all the dampness.
Our Pets
Our pets are inside for the most part and we had never really experienced any problems in the past but all hell broke loose that year. No matter what we tried, they were constantly scratching and licking and biting. Their skin was red underneath their coats from the irritation. We had to do something.
To make matters worse, two of our dogs have flea allergies. Their reaction to flea bites causes severe skin irritation that often times will result in loss of hair and non-stop scratching.
Due to the number of pets we have, we tried a couple over the counter treatments at the local feed store but they were completely useless. We knew it was time to forget saving money and go to the Vet for treatment.
The Vet To The Rescue
The Vet introduced us to Advantage and our total bill came to $122.00
The reason it was so costly is because our six pets are of course all different sizes and Advantage is based on weight. He assured us that it was well worth the investment and he was right.
He also informed us that Advantage would most likely alleviate the irritation to the two dogs with allergies.
The Product
WOW! This is truly an amazing product. The application is quite simple. The worst part was bathing each of them to remove any of the old failing treatments that we had applied before.
Once they were dry, we popped open the applicator tubes and applied it to the back of the necks on the cats. They of course hated every minute of it.
On the two smaller dogs, you simply apply it between their shoulder blades. However on the Rotties, we applied the Advantage in three spots all the way down their backs. You must be careful not to get the product on your own skin.
You want to make sure that you get the liquid on the skin so part the hair to expose as much of the skin as possible. This may be tricky when it comes to really furry dogs or cats.
The beauty of this product and one of the things that sets it apart from the rest is that it is completely water resistant. This was important to us because a couple of our dogs can't stay out of water if their lives depended on it.
Of course the most important feature of Advantage is that it begins working immediately. I would say within 12-14 hours our pets were comfortable and had stopped scratching completely.
End Result
Because this product was so effective, we don't use anything else. That $122.00 investment is budgeted each year and we wouldn't switch to another product even if Jack Hanna himself was the spokesperson.
As for the two dogs with the flea allergies, it worked! Their skin cleared up over a couple days and they had no reoccurring problems.
One application in the summer was all it took and we were flea free. Some people I know use it year round but we have not found that to be necessary with our pets.
Try Advantage next time your pets are screaming for relief and you won't be sorry and they of course will be ever so grateful.
