I have a few factors that make me a candidate for a heart attack. Family history, being over fifty, and carrying too much weight are three big factors. Though heavy I do get a good share of exercise, my cholesterol levels are good and my blood pressure is within healthy limits.
DOCTORS ORDERS
My doctor has told me that I should do my best and try to beat the odds. Recently I started a weight loss plan that I hope to review as a success in the coming months.
My doctor also suggested that I take aspirin regimen as a preventative against heart attack and stroke. I have been taking Bayer brand aspirin or its equivalent for the last three years.
The labels tell us that you should consult with a doctor before starting the daily regimen.

Let me tell you as the everyday guy, but not the pro, what I have gathered in information through my doctor and what I have read over the years.
Aspirin happens to be a blood thinner. For some people this is good for others it is not recommended. Blood in our system has bodies in it that help clot wounds from continuing to bleed. For people who do not have good blood clotting tendencies aspirin is NOT good. Blood also tends to clot in the blood stream at times. It is these blood clots that can become a danger and break loose and go to the heart or brain and block the blood from certain areas. This shuts these areas off from life giving oxygen and other benefits that the body needs to survive. This can kill parts of the heart and the same for the brain. If lucky you can survive but there is usually some kind of damage. In some cases it is a question as to whether "making it" is lucky. Some damage can be life altering.
Aspirin is a helpful agent to otherwise healthy people in helping ward off blood clotting. It seems that a bit a day, and that should be determined by your doctor, can help save lives.

The Bayer 81 mg safety coated box is green, yellow and white with orange coloured highlights. It gives us some basic facts like

Other warnings explain the importance of consulting a doctor if you have stomach problems, gout, arthritis, diabetes or if you are taking anticoagulation drugs.
There are a host of other warnings too. Hey this wonder drug can do harm to some if not taken properly. Read the information carefully. Pregnant or Breast feeding moms are alerted too.

The ASPIRIN
Bayer brand is a bit more expensive that the generic brands. I pay about $12.00 for 300 tablets vs $9.00 for generic of the same amount and dosage. These are 81mg.
Inside the childproof top are 300 little yellow tablets with the number 81 on them. Say hello to your little life savers. There should be a seal under the cap. It should be on securely when you first open it.
The aspirin can be purchased at most pharmacies and is easy to find. This is a lower 81 mg amount. Other higher regimens can be found too. Ask your doctor what is good for you.
MY DAILY USE
I take two different pills everyday. I have Lipitor that helps regulate blood cholesterol and I take the 81 mg aspirin. I take them both in the morning soon after getting up. My doc says that is OK. He also did not say there was a preference in what time of day is best to take it.
My regimen is one 81mg aspirin per day. It's to be taken with a glass of water. The little yellow pills are a snap to swallow. They are quite tiny. I have not had any ill effects from the aspirin. The coating as I mentioned earlier keeps the aspirin from dissolving in the stomach. That is good.
As of now I rate these little fellows with five stars. If they fail me I have told my daughter to change the amount of stars from five to one. Hey the little yellow guys have been helping for a few years now. Let's see if they do it for another 30 or 40.
