This is concerning the Baymont Inn and Suites on Iowa Street in Lawrence, Kansas. I am just tickled pink to have the opportunity to praise this hotel.
My mom and I booked a room in this hotel quite unexpectedly after not even knowing that same morning that we were traveling anywhere. We received word that a family funeral was imminent and so I hurriedly called local hotels looking for one with room for all of the nights we needed. The Baymont was the only one in town and I am so glad.
We arrived very late that night and were welcomed by a helpful gentleman. I had neglected to request a room on the top floor at the time of my reservation, so he made the switch on the spot. Our beds were very comfortable--and I usually have a hard time with hotel beds. Our room was also quiet and clean. Complimentary breakfast was also included with our rate, as was access to an indoor pool and workout room.
Our stay extended longer than we anticipated and the hotel effortlessly extended our reservation. Additionally, my husband, dad and brother all arrived for the funeral, and the hotel sent up a cot for my brother (we had 2 queen beds in addition) as well as extra sheets, blankets, pillow cases and pillows and towels for 3, with their compliments and offer of assistance for anything else we might need.
We ended up having to extend our stay a third time and by the third time, we needed to move to a larger room (their only remaining available for that weekend) but they gave us a discounted rate on the larger room, and also discounted our smaller room from the previous nights with a bereavement rate. Their act of generosity and sympathy was so touching to our family in our time of grief.
At the end of the stay we'd been there just 2 days shy of 2 weeks, and so we had opportunity to interact with the entire desk staff and all were courteous, pleasant and helpful.
The hotel is quiet, the rooms are comfortable and clean, and the location is close to the University and Hospital with easy access to the main thoroughfare.
Our complaints were minimal. Our television did not work properly at first but it was fixed as soon as we mentioned it. We had a few run ins with an impatient maid staff but when we informed the management that because we were spending odd hours at the hospital (often in to the wee hours of the morning), we wouldn't be hopping up and down to get out of the room first thing in the morning to accommodate the ticking clock of a service we were paying for, the management was very apologetic and we didn't have an issue again. One night the housekeeping staff must have spilled water and so by the time we arrived in the wee hours of the morning, the room smelled musty, but again, the management was very apologetic and we understood that in a spans of 2 weeks, an error or two was completely forgivable. We had a harder time with noise at the end of our stay when we were moved to the bottom floor backing up to the parking lot but that is to be expected in that location. On the top floor, our room was silent. Overall, our complaints were few (especially given the length of our stay!) and the management was always quick to assist us with any issues.
My only other complaint is that there were no breakfast choices that were not either carbohydrates, sugars, or both. I'd like to see a few more choices of fresh fruit, yogurt, and a non-sugary cereal for the dietary restricted.
We will definitely returning to this hotel whenever we have occasion to visit that area again. I cannot recommend this hotel and compliment them highly enough.
