Pros: Small, quick to read, Joyce gives great examples to help us relate.
Cons: If you're new to faith, can be overwhelming to understand even basic scriptures.
Joyce Meyer: Be Healed in Jesus Name
Time Warner Books 2000
I admit I am not an overly religious person. My parents took me to Sunday school as a child, but I mostly misbehaved. This past June we had our daughter baptized at our local United Church and my husband and I agreed we would try to raise her in a good Christian home, and try to learn more about and participate in our religion.
Shortly after being diagnosed with Breast cancer, I was seeking out other women who had been through this illness for support and information. One woman I met was similar to me, with a young family. She told me about her battle and explained how her faith helped her through it. She told me she sent a prayer request to Joyce Meyer Ministries and in response they sent her information and this book Be Healed in Jesus Name. She enjoyed it so much, she purchased 4 more copies for gifts. She mailed me a copy, which I received last week. After hearing her story and how positive she was, I felt maybe faith was something I could learn and gain from.
I really did not know much about Joyce Meyer, knew she was on TV, but was not aware of how popular this strong woman is. She has taught scriptures since 1976, is the best-selling author of over 54 inspirational books, 220 audiocassette albums, and 90 videos.
This book I am reviewing is a small paperback with a glossy cover. 85 pages in length makes it not too big of a challenge to tackle.
CONTENT OF THIS BOOK
I will give you some brief examples of information involved in each chapter
Chapter 1 Releasing Gods Power to Heal
Joyce writes Many people believe God is able to heal them but arent sure whether he will heal them. If you are one of these people, in this book you will find scripture verses that reveal how willing God is to heal.
Chapter 2 God Wants Good Things for His Children
.God loves us because He is love. Love is not something he does; love is who He is. (1 John 4:16)
Chapter 3 The Basis for Receiving Healing
Joyce explains to us what Jesus underwent for us to receive salvation and to provide healing for us. She tries to help the reader Take hold of your healing by faith
Chapter 4 Simple Faith
Joyce tells us we do not need to understand everything about Gods words, but to simply trust and lean in faith to Jesus. He freely wants to heal us.
Chapter 5 Hindrances to Healing
God does not expect us to be perfect, but our hearts must be right toward Him to receive from Him Some examples of hindrances are having unforgiveness in our hearts, or known sin in our lives.
Chapter 6 Methods God Uses to Heal
Most of the time healing is part of a process, but sometimes miracles are preformed. It is important to speak the healing scriptures in the name of Jesus and to have elders of the church, or others who believe to pray with us and for us.
Chapter 7 Faith and Patience Bring Gods Promise
As wrote in Chapter 6 that healing is a process, this chapter helps us to be patient and diligent, not giving up on the process.
The Conclusion is a briefing of 3 important points for us to keep in mind.
Next, Joyce gives us a collection of Prayer to Receive Healing. These can be read often and are best read aloud.
In Chapter 2, Joyce writes of how we can become a heir of God. A note at the bottom of the page directs us to this next page Prayer for a Personal Relationship with the Lord This is one which I have had to read several times.
The next 4 pages are Endnotes, and References.
Finally is an About the Author, and how to contact Joyce Meyer Ministries.
There is also a 2-page list of other Joyce Meyer titles
I have really enjoyed this book and have since ordered and am awaiting delivery of another Joyce Meyer book. The only con I experienced was being overwhelmed at first by the scriptures inside. I have had a chance to read this through a couple of times, and have since been able to understand the scriptures better.
I liked how Joyce appeals to new people by telling us People who are concerned that they dont have enough faith for healing need instead to turn their attention to learning how to use the faith they already have.
I found this comforting to know that it is okay for me to not have fully come to understand Gods words, and that I can learn along the way without losing Gods healing power.
I feel there is a lot of strength in this slim book, and I like that the size allows me to pick it up at anytime and read through it quickly.
I recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Joyce Meyer to add to his or her collection, or to anyone who, like myself, needs healing of any kind, and wants to learn how Jesus can heal us.
There is no price on the jacket of this book. Some Internet searching has revealed a price of $4.to $6. The book is listed as Christian Living.
