| tozar's Full Review: Beachcomber 720x Hot Tub |
In short, my wife and I purchased a Beachcomber 720x for $7200. This is more than we wanted to spend on a hot tub. The 720x configuration we bought:
Tropical mist green
Hunter green cover
Protec option
Hush pump
Ozonator
Everlight 3 system
Everlight garden package
Reflex foot massage
Cedar cabinet
2 lb, insulated cover and cover lifter
We are extremely satisfied with this Beachcomber model and options that we purchased. My wife and I consistantly use it 4-5 times a week. We got it in September 2003. Some of the best experiences so far have been enjoying a blizzard at night and just lounging, watching the trees blow around or when it was about zero degrees farenheit out on a crystal, clear, cold winter night and we were looking up into a sky full of stars in 104F degree water. The moisture in my hair was freezing it was so cold but definately nice!
This all started about two years ago, we checked out hot tubs at a home expo show. We looked at about five different vendors of hot tubs that were displaying their products (Jacuzzi, Master Spa, Beachcomber and some others).
The Beachcomber brand was what we thought had been the most focused on the concept of a hot tub and best constructed hot tub we saw. It didn't have all the bells and whistles that some other hot tubs provided, but we didn't really need or care for these anyway. Such as: head/neck pillows that would eventually leak, mildew and discolor; popup TV's, dozens of small useless jets, and uncomfortable seating positions. I'd rather just pay for a quality, well engineered hot tub then if later on I need pool pillows, a TV or drinks served while in my hot tub, I'll take care of that my self.
The big problem for me was the price. The Beachcomber sales guy said that the one I was looking at (at the show) was about $8000.00 to $10,000.00 depending upon what extras I got. I thanked him for the free video and brochures and we moved on.
I had to hear my wife rag for two years about a hot tub. She would come across the sales video every once in a while and the ragging would start again.
I got to the point of looking at hot tubs during some of my many trips to Home Depot. These were in the range of $3500 to $5500 which was about what I thought a hot tub was worth. These were basic, no frills hot tubs without all the bells and whistles that I didn't need.
Anyway, I broke down and visited a pool place that sells Beachcomber. I first went without my wife. I didn't need some sales guy and her both working on me to buy one. The guy didn't push the sale at all. He clearly explained (some of what I already knew but didn't tell him) beachcomber hot tubs. I narrowed it down to about 3 or 4 models. Then, I brought my wife. She picked out one of the models that I previously looked at and the color. Of course, the more expensive one.
We've been extremely satisfied! The quality of workmanship, seating design, jet design and layout, controls, etc. are top quality.
I've since compared the Beachcomber's construction to the best one on display in front of Home Depot and can't believe the differences. The Beachcomber is definately worth the extra $2000 to $3000. All I can say now is thank God I didn't get one of these. My electric bill would be through the roof! These are not very well insulated (big gaps and holes in the sprayed in foam). The seats in these are FLAT. There are no contours for your comfort or to hold you into the seat when you're buoyant and the jets are on max.
The only dissatisfaction was the price, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for!
