Beck's Premier Light: A Beer for the (Very) Light Beer Crowd

Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros:Low calories; Tastes like beer.
Cons:Watery body; Weak and unsophisticated.
The Bottom Line: This is a very light beer, but it does have a few redeeming qualities
It seems like most every beer in the world has a light version. Light beers were popularized in the United States but the trend has spread to other countries and other continents and now a large number of popular beer manufacturers produce a light product. One company to jump on the low calorie bandwagon in the past year or so is Becks and its beer is called Becks Premier Light, a lightened version of regular Becks.

Basic Characteristics of This Product:
Becks Premier Light pours to a light straw color with a skunky/grassy aroma that also features the light scent of apple. There is little foam and it fades away in a short time. The body of this beer is completely clear, indicating extensive filtering.
Flavors present in this beer include light grain, corn meal, and a taste of grassy hops in the finish. Some fruit can be tasted in the middle- like a combination of lime and apple, but only a small amount of each. The body of this beer is weak and watery and it finishes with a small bite of hops that is quickly flushed away by the watery body.
Becks Premier Light is brewed with scant amounts of ingredients to keep its taste light and crisp. The final product has 3.9 grams of carbs, 1.0 gram of protein, zero fat, and only 64 calories in a 12 oz. (345 ml) serving. The alcohol content is 2.3 percent by volume.
Becks Premier Light could be consumed with many different foods thanks to its light taste and resemblance to water. With the light grain and grassy notes, I think this beer would taste ok with fish & chips, French fries, potato chips, and other similar snack foods.
Becks Premier Light is a very light beer offered by one of the best known export beer manufacturers in the world- Germanys Brauerie Beck. It is a beer with little in the way of taste but with a body that is crisp and simplistic, making it a good choice for those times when you want some beer, but you need something less filling and easy on the stomach.
Probably the most shocking fact about this beer is the exceptionally low calorie content. I couldnt believe my eyes when I read the bottle and it said there are 64 calories in a 12 oz. serving. It seemed too low to be true. Most all other light beers have at least 95 calories and most are closer to the 105 to 120 range. How, I wondered, did Becks make this beer light enough to weigh in at 64 calories? Well, the answer lies in the low level of alcohol. With only 2.3 percent alcohol by volume, Becks Premiere Light contains less than half the alcohol content of most beer. By removing half of the alcohol, the calories fall with it, down (in this instance) to a surprisingly low level of only 64.
As far as the taste goes, this beer is light, boring, and unsophisticated- in other words, its exactly what one would expect from a beer with low carbs and low alcohol. But I am not immediately willing to slap this lighter- than- usual- brew with a low, one star rating. The reason is because of the beers effort to taste like a real product and not one that is alcohol free. We all know how most non- alcoholic beer tastes: like grains floating in water. Becks Premier Light at least tastes like real beer. It is certainly a light taste and it is certainly nothing complex or interesting. But it is still the taste of beer and this fact prevents me from giving it the lowest rating.
Becks Premier Light can be found in most of the same places where regular Becks is sold. It is a beer that is growing in popularity in the United States thanks to its very low calorie content. With calories, carbs, and alcohol at such low levels, it is the type of beer that anyone can drink and not feel guilty.
Becks Premier Light is nothing special. It doesnt offer a memorable taste. The body is watery. The finish is watery. The smell is skunky. It has all the earmarks of a low- rated beer and it does deserve to be rated as such. But I am not going to give it the lowest rating because it does at least have some beer flavor. It tastes better than a non- alcoholic brew and it does please enough of the senses to tolerate a glass or two on certain occasions.
