Pros:a little goes a long way, very moisturizing
Cons:can be greasy, difficult to find locally
The Bottom Line: If you have dry and cracked feet, you definitely need to try Aquaphor Healing Ointment. You won't be sorry!
I soak, scrub, file, and moisturize my feet almost every evening so I would say that they are in pretty good shape. That being said, I've been spending a lot of time in the pool and at the beach and those aren't the best environments for bare feet. One of the moisturizing products that I've been using lately to help to keep them in great condition is Aquaphor Healing Ointment.
About This Product
Aquaphor Healing Ointment is described on the label as "dermatologist-recommended advanced therapy for dry, cracked, or irritated skin". This product contains no fragrances, dyes, or preservatives which "provides safe and gentle care for sensitive skin". It comes in a 3.5 ounce plastic pot and sells for $9-10. I haven't ever seen it sold locally, so I ordered it from a major online drugstore (hint, hint) and got it on sale for seven dollars and change.
My Experience
I've been using this product occasionally over the past few weeks. This is a fairly thick ointment that reminds me of Vaseline only not as thin and slimy. A quarter-sized dab is more than enough to provide a thorough coating of ointment on both the top and bottom of each foot. I spend a fair amount of time really working the ointment into my feet, partially to get it absorbed and partially because the whole foot routine is part of my evening relaxation process. After I'm done rubbing it in, I have to cover my feet in socks because they are just too sticky and greasy to walk around in bare feet or even in my flip flops.
This is a very rich ointment and not something that I'd recommend using daily unless your feet are exceptionally dry and cracked like my husband's. I only use Aquaphor Healing Ointment after I've spent a few days in the pool/sand/ocean and it definitely helps to keep my feet hydrated and soft, even after they've been blasted with salt, sand, and chemicals. I think this product will also be great in the winter when my feet are usually parched and dying for moisture.
Overall Opinion
I have been very happy with this moisturizing ointment. My feet aren't in bad condition but it helps me to keep them hydrated and soft even when I spend day after day at the beach or in the pool. I will definitely buy it again.
