My review of this Radar Detector is based on using it for the last 4 months and the previous years with other brands. My new car which I am leasing, prompted me to go with a cordless model (self contained battery operated) so I would not have to run wires through the car or mount the unit on the dash with a cable tangling to the accessory plug. To serve that purpose this radar detector scores an excellent rating, that is ease of mounting. I have it mounted above the rear view mirror using the suction cup-mounting bracket that comes with this unit.
Where this detector scores low is it makes to many different sounds, it took me a couple of months just to understand the low battery warning. It also is not loud enough. The Bel’s are known for there chirping noise and this model chirps in all different flavors.
In the battery department it uses 2 AA batteries, which for me last a about a 1 ½ months, I am very pleased with this, a small price for the excellent versatility in mounting the unit in my car and the ability to move it to other vehicles very easily.
Now for the area that really matters the ability to detect radar, it seems to be excellent. Usually warns me well in advance of a visual of the radar source. Keeps me driving the proper speed at the most important times. I think you know what I mean.
The model I have is sold, as a Bel Express Li cordless Signature Series, which I believe, is the same as a Bel 945i/946. The only difference is the Express Li has a longer warranty. Once again I believe this to be accurate but I might be wrong. The picture of a 945i/946 looks identical to my unit.
So if you want a radar detector that’s a dream to install and excellent for detecting radar this is an excellent choice.
