When I first saw the Belkin MiniScroller Optical Mouse I was in an office supply store looking for bargain accessories for a secondary budget PC. Anyone who has used PC's for any length of time understands the frustration caused by bargain mechanical mice or even quality ones when the balls get dirty and start to skip. Well, I was resigned to having to endure frequent skipping and cleaning as I was unwilling to spend $50 or more on a "quality" optical mouse for a secondary budget PC.
Just as I was about to grab an inexpensive bargain brand ball mouse, I noticed the tiny Belkin MiniScroller in a corner. The first things I noticed were that it was an optical mouse and the price was under $20! While I definitely felt there was a high probability that an optical mouse that is so much cheaper than it's peers would end up being junk, I decided to give it a try.
As soon as I got home I installed it on my second PC. When the machine booted (Windows XP), the mouse was immediately recognized. I then downloaded the drivers from the Belkin website as the XP drivers weren't on the included floppy. The drivers and mouse adjustment utility installed easily and were problem free.
The really amazing thing about this mouse is how well it works. The small size is the only difference between it and the expensive optical mice I've used before. Even though it's small, it has a good feel and I would recommend it to anyone who uses a computer all day long. Any surface I tried worked great: woodgrain desktop, blank white paper, black mouse pad, mouse pad with glossy picture, etc.
Not only does this mouse work great for normal use (web browsing, office applications, etc.), but it works great in first person shooter games. I have used it extensively to play Rogue Spear and I love it. At this point I bought a second Belkin mouse to put on my main PC as well.
