infringer's Full Review: Belkin Nostromo N50 SpeedPad Game Pad
Walking through CompUSA one day I saw this awkward device. It intrigued me as I like playing first-person shooters, and it looked like it would be worth getting used to. I was surprised to see that it actually said it was Windows 2000 compatible, as not many gaming devices are W2K compatible yet. So, I bought it for $29.99 plus tax took it home and began to use it.
My system hardware is as follows:
PIII 1ghz
383MB RAM
Microsoft Trackball Explorer
Windows 2000
Hooked the game pad up with no problem (after reading instructions). Began to play Rogue Spear with it. 5 minutes into the game, I received Windows dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD).
Having only seen the BSOD 2 or 3 other times on Win2K I figured it was just a mishap. And rebooted computer and began to play Rogue Spear again. This time I played it for about 10-15 minutes and again received the dreaded BSOD!
By this time I knew something was up, went to Belkin's website looking for answers, maybe updated software, maybe FAQ to help me fix it. I found nothing, so I turned to the internet and search engines. I found out that I was not the only one affected by this BSOD.
Belkin did release some new drivers and that has made it a little more stable, but I still receive the BSOD rather frequently.
As for Profiles, this controller is one of the easiest that I have seen to set up. Much easier than having to set up everything inside the game like other game devices.
As for the total ranking of the product, for now, I only give it a 3 out of 5. The only reason it receives so low from me is because of its lack of stability on Win2000. Once new drivers, or something comes out that stabilizes it bettere my ranking will move to a 5 of 5.
