bunwhisper's Full Review: Belkin My Essential (ME1004-R) Wireless Router
I looked at several other routers and I felt like this one gave me the most bang for the buck (only $39.99 at OfficeMax!). It supports both wireless and hardwired connections (I needed both) and was so simple to set up--a total novice can do it, unlike some of the routers I have set up in the past. Basically, most wireless routers are the same if they are new--it is the software/interface that will set them apart (assuming all are equally reliable).
Most importantly to me, this router's software is Mac compatible. Now, I know I can set up a router the "manual" way via a browser page that communicates with the router, but that is so much more complicated. Why gnash your teeth and curse your computer? This easy-to-use software guided me right through it and within two minutes, I was back on the net. You dont need to know obscure terms (some of which even I dont know, though I have long managed a Mac network). I think the common home user will greatly appreciate that. It automatically detected all my broadband settings and I was good to go. But if you are a techie and want to tweak the settings (especially the firewall), it allows you to do so.
The router supports 10/100 Base T Ethernet and 802.11g Wi-Fi.
I also like that it runs much cooler than my old Linksys, which was like having a little furnace on my desk.
