hamuel's Full Review: Belkin (F5D5050) USB Network Adapter
Belkin Part Number F5D5050
Due to some reconfiguration changes, I recently ran out of PCI slots on my older, low profile, desktop PC and therefore had to sacrifice a PCI based NIC card for a new PCI sound card. Prior to this change, I had not used USB devices very much and since I did not have any USB devices on my circa 1997 personal PC, I had no idea what to expect from this particular configuration.
While shopping for the USB device I really didn't know what features would be useful other than (a) the device should have a 10/100 capability and (b) should be easy to install. This device met requirement "a" and my past experience with numerous other Belkin products left me feeling that "b" shouldn't be a problem either.
I installed the Belkin USB device on to my 200mhz Win2k desktop, plugged the CD into the PC. The device was found immediately, the installation grabbed the drivers off the CD and I had a network running within 2 minutes without even rebooting!
I was so impressed by the quality of this product that I picked up a second unit for a laptop which travels a fair amount. My experience with the second unit was just as pleasant as the first.
As for performance, everything seems to work just as advertised. The installation was simple & the device works just fine. As with a NIC on any system, after the (sometimes painful) configuration process, I forget about the device and take it for granted. This device was so simple I started taking it for granted immediately. What more could you ask for from any Ethernet device???
Belkin did a great job designing this device and the drivers!
