| DGTurtle2's Full Review: Bellies and Buns Fitted Cloth Diapers |
What can I say? It was bound to happen sooner or later. With all of the new WAHM (Work At Home Mom) diapers coming out, I was bound to find one that I loved even more than my old favorite. The day that my old favorite diaper was de-throned was in February when I first laid eyes (and hands) on Bellies and Buns fitted cloth diapers.
DESCRIPTION
Bellies and Buns fitted cloth diapers are beautifully made by a WAHM (Work at Home Mom). Each diaper is sewn individually with lots of attention to detail. The workmanship of these diapers is superb.
Each diaper is made of an outer layer of 100% cotton flannel in super cute prints. There are masculine, feminine, and gender neutral prints available. The inside layer next to baby's skin is all white super flannel which is very soft and holds up well. The inside soaker of the diaper is made from Chinese prefold material which is super absorbent.
Bellies and Buns diapers close with strong Aplix and feature fold back tabs in order to prevent the diapers from clinging together during laundering. The diapers are sewn with a turned and topstitched method, meaning no rough edges will touch baby's skin. Each diaper also has gentle but snug elastic at the leg and the back waist to help prevent leaks.
Each Bellies and Buns diaper comes with a liner or doubler as well. The size small diaper comes with a fleece liner (not a doubler). Fleece naturally wicks moisture away from baby's skin. The larger sized diapers each come with a doubler. The doublers feature one layer of fleece (to keep baby's skin feeling dry), four layers of prefold material (for increased absorbency), and one layer of 100% cotton flannel to match the print of the diaper (just for cuteness).
Bellies and Buns diapers are also available in a night time weight. These night time diapers offer additional layers in both the diaper and the doubler for even more absorbency for those long overnight diapering needs.
Bellies and Buns diapers are available in sizes for newborn (6-11 pounds), small (10-17 pounds), medium (15-27 pounds), large (25-35+ pounds), and extra large (32+ pounds). There is some overlap in each size range since all babies are shaped differently. This wonderful WAHM also lists measurements for each size diaper (waist and rise) on her site. Checking weight, waist and rise measurements will assure the best possible fit.
OUR EXPERIENCE
As I stated in my introduction, what can I say? I love these diapers. I first ordered three to try out and fell in love immediately. I have since gone back to order more and more and some night time weight too. I now have at least 14 Bellies and Buns diapers in my stash.
For daytime use we love Bellies and Buns. These diapers offer super absorbency, even without a cover. We are easily able to go two hours or more in this diaper without a cover. The fit is exquisite. My son is 30 pounds and fits beautifully in the large size diaper with plenty of room to grow. The leg elastic is snug around the thigh with no gapping, but not so tight as to leave any marks on the skin. This is just a beautifully fitting diaper. These diapers are also surprisingly trim for being as absorbent as they are. They fit well under clothing (provided the clothing is not TOO tight). Bellies and Buns diapers offer a trim look and work with all of the covers that I have tried, including MotherEase Airflow covers, Alexis snap pants, Stacinator fleece covers, and Happy*Pants.
Bellies and Buns were, for a time, our exclusive night time diapering system as well. The fleece topped doubler did a wonderful job of keeping my son's skin dry during our long (12 hour) overnights. We used the night time weight Bellies and Buns diaper with the fleece topped doubler under a MotherEase Airflow cover. We never had any leaks when using this system. And as an added bonus, my son's morning diapers did not have that strong smell of urine like they did with our previous overnight system. Alas, as my son's output became greater, we had to switch to a different night time system. (See my review on Fuzzi Bunz cloth diapering system.) The Bellies and Buns night time system was perfect for us until my son wsa over age two though.
RECOMMENDATION
Have I raved enough about how wonderful these diapers are? Bellies and Buns offer everything that I look for in a cloth diaper. They are super absorbent, trim fitting, well made and simply adorable. The customer service is tops here too!
These are some of the best made diapers that I have ever owned. We've had some of our Bellies and Buns diapers in rotation for well over a year and a half and they are still absolutely perfect. Some complain that flannel does not hold up well, but this flannel is superb!
I highly recommend Bellies and Buns fitted cloth diapers for ANY cloth diapering mom, veteran or newcomer!
