| rayleha's Full Review: Benadryl Allergy Liquid Dye Free 4oz |
My son has a severe peanut allergy. He has an allergic reaction if he even smells peanuts. The doctor told me to give him Benadryl for his mild reactions. He has an EPIPEN for any serious reactions, which, Thank the Lord, we have never had to use.
Believe me when I say that I know about this medicine. I first started buying the original liquid form of this medicine. Which is pink and tastes HORRIBLE. Then I went with the less expensive generic form. I pay about $5 to $7 for the name. But with the generic Wal Mart brand I can get it for $1.97.
One day though I sent my husband to buy the medicine and he never thinks to check the generic brand. He bought this Dye-Free, Bubble Gum flavor. This goes down so much easier for my son. In fact he now refers to it as "the Daddy medicine".
This medicine seems to help his symptoms subside whenever he is unfortunate enough to have an allergic reaction. There have been times that it has not worked though and the reaction just continued to get worse. So if you have a child with severe allergies, watch them carefully even after you give him/her this medicine.
There are side effects with this medicine. Sometimes my son will be drowsy from it and sometimes he goes the other way and becomes more excitable.
I am nervous about using medicines of any kind. So I would suggest getting your doctor's advice before giving your child any kind of medicine. That is what I do. They know the right kind of medicine and the right dosage.
