I think I have been buying Dye-Free Benadryl as long as it has been on the market. With a highly allergic child, this medication has been a very welcome product for us. My favorite things about Dye-Free Benadryl are that it is clear, contains no alcohol or propylene glycol, and it actually works--whether I give it to my child to relieve nasal congestion or itching from her atopic dermatitis.
A one-teaspoon dose given for nasal congestion usually relieves symptoms fairly quickly and keeps her symptom-free for several hours, depending upon the severity of her congestion. A one- or two-teaspoon dose at night usually relieves her itching skin so that she can rest fairly comfortably, depending upon the severity of her itching. If her dermatitis is flaring and her itching is severe, I may need to give her a second dose during the night.
The main side-effect of this medication is that it causes sleepiness, so I try to limit using it to night-time.
I haven't tried any other over-the-counter medications of this type due to my child's allergies to ingredients in other over-the-counter antihistamine/decongestants currently on the market.
I should (but don't) own stock in this company since I buy enough Dye-Free Benadryl! I also use it if she accidentally eats something she's allergic to, for relief of any minor symptoms resulting from that.
