| bops_mom's Full Review: Benadryl Allergy Liquid Dye Free 4oz |
Benadryl Dye-Free Allergy Liquid gets a five star rating from this mom. Want to know why? It works and my son will happily take his dose without a fuss. What more could you ask for?
About the product
Benadryl Dye-Free Allergy Liquid is a clear bubble gum flavored liquid that is both alcohol and sugar free. It comes in a 4 oz. bottle that will cost you around $5.00. The active ingredient is Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride - there is 12.5 mg per teaspoon/5 ml.
Benadryl Dye-Free Allergy Liquid is quite simply a dye free, liquid version of those little pink tablets we call Benadryl. Is that the only difference? Yes, it is. (Obviously, since one is a liquid and the other is a pill what you take will be different to get the same dose.)
Benadryl Dye-Free Allergy Liquid is best for relieving symptoms of allergies, the common cold and allergic reactions such as hives. These namely are: running nose, itchy nose, watery eyes, itchy eyes, red eyes, itchy throat and sneezing.
What I use it for
Okay, I don't use this product. My son does. I rarely give him any medication, and when I do it's only when it's a "must". Today I had to give him some Benadryl Dye-Free Allergy Liquid. My son has what we call seasonal allergies and today he spent all of his time rubbing his poor little nose raw all the while it ran down his little face. Poor thing. So, Benadryl Dye-Free Allergy Liquid to the rescue!
I gave him his dose and within 30 minutes my son had some relief. He stopped messing with his nose and his nose stopped making a mess on his face. Yay! Happy mom!
Dosage
Okay, for those who know, my son is only 2.5 years old. This product is is not recommended for children under the age of 6 unless directed by a physician. I have been told by my son's pediatrician to give him this product when needed, and he also gave me the dose to give. Having said that, I will not be passing that information on in this review as I feel if your child is under the age of 6 you need to consult their own doctor.
The recommended doses for Benadryl Dye-Free Allergy Liquid is as follows:
Children 6 - 12 years of age -- 1 to 2 teaspoonfuls every 4 to 6 hours (not to exceed 12 teaspoonfuls in a 24 hour period)
Adults and Children ages 12 and up -- 2 to 4 teaspoonfuls every 4 to 6 hours (not to exceed 24 teaspoonfuls in a 24 hour period)
Cautions
As with any medication, over the counter or otherwise, certain individuals should not take Benadryl Dye-Free Allergy Liquid. Please consult your doctor if you have any questions and always read the labels.
Overall
I'm thrilled with this product. It not only works but it works very well in relieving my son of his allergy symptoms. The flavor must be good since he happily takes his dose when I need to give it to him (this is not the case with every medication!). I also like the fact that it is dye free - this make the product available to many other children and adults who are allergic and or sensitive to dyes. If you or your child is in need of a liquid allergy medication I think you'd do well to look into Benadryl Dye-Free Allergy Liquid.
