When we found out that my daughter was allergic to amoxacyllan(sp?) this is what we were told to give her. The doctor said there was nothing he could do for the hives, but that this would help.
By the end of the day we could see the difference. We had only given this to my daughter twice and that is how fast it worked. My daughter was not longer uncomfortable from the itching. She could once again sleep comfortably.
This benadryl is not only dye-free, but alcohol and sugar free as well. I do not like to give any more sugar to my daughter than I have to. The best part though was since it tasted so good I had no problem getting her to take it. She always wanted more. For it being sugar free it had a nice bubble gum flavor.
As with all medication if you are giving it to a child under six consult a doctor first. My daughter was sixteen months old when we used this on her. The doctor told us how much to give her and the measuring spoon for it. For children 6 to 12 years of age you can give them 1-2 teaspoonfuls every 4-6 hours. Do not exceed 12 teaspoonfuls in 24 hours. For children 12 and up you can take 2-4 teaspoonfuls every 4-6 hours. Do not exceed 24 teaspoonfuls in 24 hour period. The active ingredient is Diphehydramine Hydrochloride 12.5 mg.
I am just glad that there was something out on the market that would help my daughter. Her discomfort was gone and peace was back in our home thanks to this product.
