The Bottom Line: While I prefer the original Kitten shimmer powder, this copper-toned version is still fun and flirty. It's a great accessory for a night on the town!

I’m no stranger to the BeneFit line. In fact, I often drool over their super cute and sassy products every time I venture into my neighborhood Sephora store. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this line of makeup, skincare, and bath and body products, BeneFit is the trendy girl’s dream – their packaging is fun and flirty, and their products have catchy names (such as “Touch Me And Try To Leave” cream, Bathina Body So Fine sparkly moisturizer, and Hoola bronzing powder).
But BeneFit’s signature collection is their “Kitten” line, comprised of ultra-feminine treats such as shower caps, lip gloss, soap on a rope (attached to a faux pearl necklace, no less!) and the famous Kitten shimmer powder. These products leave you feeling sultry, pampered and coy, just by having them displayed on your bathroom counters. My first introduction to BeneFit was a little over 3 years ago, when my friends purchased the original BeneFit Kitten Powder for me as a graduation gift. I became such a fan of the Kitten powder that I bought some more only a few months later.
Kitten Shops New York … for a very worthy cause
I was initially drawn to the Kitten Shops New York powder because it was touted as a special edition product. Proceeds from the sale of this powder would go to support various 9/11 charities. The price tag, at $24, was a bit steep, but I figured it was a worthy cause. I had been wanting to try different shades of the Kitten powder anyhow, so this was the perfect opportunity.
Now, you may be wondering what I mean by “shades” of a shimmer powder. Each version of Kitten powder (Kitten, Kitten in Paris, Kitten Shops New York) comes in a different colored container, with a different colored fluffy pouf, and a different color shimmer. Classic Kitten comes in a pink container, with a pink pouf and a champagne-colored shimmer; Kitten in Paris comes in a lavender container with a lavender pouf and silver-colored shimmer; and Kitten Shops New York comes in a light blue container with a black pouf and a copper-toned shimmer.
This powder’s unique and flirty packaging is a big selling point!
I absolutely LOVE the packaging of all Kitten powder products and will proudly display them even when I’ve run out of powder! They all come in a sturdy cardboard canister, with an adorable drawing of the trademark Kitten on the cover. The Kitten Shops New York cover features Kitten … shopping in New York! When you remove the lid, you will find a soft black fluffy pouf, with a black satin “grab” ribbon on top. And you may be surprised to find that there is no loose powder – all the powder has been infused into the pouf! This makes for much less mess and much more controlled application. It also makes for more subtlety, as even the most firm “pats” of the pouf don’t distribute very much powder.
Don’t let this packaging fool you. That sparkly powder will last and last! There is so much loaded into the fluffy puff that you could very well enjoy the product for a couple of years!
I was a bit disappointed in the powder itself. It has a subtle, pleasant scent, and it is copper-colored. The sparkles are extremely fine – so fine that you probably won’t be able to tell you’re wearing any, unless the lights are dim! While this makes for a sultry look if you happen to be going out for a candle-lit evening, it makes for some frustration. Often I am not sure whether I’m applying enough to make it noticeable, or whether I’ve applied too much! I never had this problem with the original Kitten powder, mainly because that powder was a bit lighter and showed up a little more on my skin tone. So I simply use the same amount of Kitten Shops New York as I do the original Kitten powder – 3 pats across the décolletage, 2 pats on each shoulder, and I head out the door J
There’s just something about this product that makes you feel sassy!
I believe this product is a great accessory for your evenings out – especially in warm weather, when you’ll be showing more skin. The subtle shimmer will draw attention to your skin and make your look more complete. But there is also a psychological effect of this powder – it always makes me feel like the fun and flirty girl I am! And, as I said before, I absolutely love the packaging – to the point that I hope people will use my bathroom, just to see how trendy I really am! Now, I can’t say this product is really worth $24, because there are other shimmer powders that will deliver as high quality a product, for a cheaper price. But the total packaging of this product makes for a fun and flirty splurge! For that reason, I’d say BeneFit Kitten powder is simply purrrrrrrrrrrrrfect!
