I’ve had sort of mixed feelings about the Benefit products I have tried, but I love the scent of Maybe Baby. I first received one of those cute little sample lotions with an order from Benefit, and was so pleased with it, I went ahead and ordered the fragrance gift set (3.4 oz. eau de toilette and 6.7 oz. body lotion).
Here’s what Benefit has to say about Maybe Baby Body Lotion: “Warm, provocative, spirited & fresh, nothing smells as beautiful as Maybe Baby with its lingering fusion of white ginger, apricot & a tumble of white blossoms. Now, nothing feels as beautiful as Maybe Baby Body Lotion. Blend this fragrant body lotion with its champagne shimmer from sexy shoulders to flirty feet… its all you need for bare-skin beauty”
First of all, I absolutely love the smell of Maybe Baby! I think it’s unique. I can’t say I can actually smell the apricot at all, it is not a fruity scent. It is definitely floral. I love the smell of white flowers, and all of my favorite scents are a variation on this. I think it is a bit heavier than other scents I use (others may not think so, though). It is great for winter, but I’m not sure how I’ll feel about it come summer.
The lotion itself comes in about a 6-inch tall rubbery plastic tube. It’s a pretty, pearly peach color with a black screw-on lid. It is designed to stand on its lid. Now, one of my only gripes about this product is the packaging itself. It’s very pretty to look at, but I think lotions with either a flip-top cap or pump dispenser are so much easier to handle. It’s just a little annoying when I am rushing around in the morning, having to unsrew and screw on a lid, while my hands are still greasy from lotion. I also think the lotion comes out very fast, so it is easy to get too much. At least it doesn’t ooze out as soon as I take the lid off, you have to squeeze it gently to get the product out.
I could not find the ingredients for this anywhere (they are not printed on the tube itself). I have not experienced any irritation from this lotion, but then again I am not sensitive to body lotions or perfumes.
The first time I applied the lotion I used about a half-dollar sized amount for my whole body. The lotion absorbed fairly quickly and gave my skin a beautiful sheen, and was pleasantly scented with the lovely Maybe Baby scent. I don’t have overly dry skin, so the moisturization was okay for me, but nothing special. I thought the shimmer and the scent were subtle. Other reviewers have commented that there is not a lot of this shimmer in this product; I agree, but it contains just the right amount of shimmer for me. It is not too glittery to wear during the day.
The shimmer in this product has good staying power. 8 hours later, I could still see some shimmer on my shoulders and legs if I looked closely. The scent faded quite a bit; it was barely detectable at the end of the day, but if I layered it with the eau de toilette, I could still smell it at the end of the day.
The way I use this product now is that I mix about a quarter-sized amount of the Maybe Baby body lotion with the same amount of Jergen’s Ultra-Healing fragrance-free moisturizer. This of course dilutes the scent and the shimmer, but still provides enough shimmer for me during the day. This moisturizes better, too, because now that it’s the dead of winter my skin is a bit drier. For evenings I’ll use the Maybe Baby lotion full-strength. The main reason I do this, though, is because the Maybe Baby is so expensive, I’m just trying to get it to last as long as I can!
I am definitely using up the lotion faster than the eau de toilette (it comes in a very generous-sized bottle). I probably won’t buy the lotion again, just because it is so expensive- $22 for body lotion is way out of my price range! I do recommend this product for what is it- a subtley scented and slightly shimmery body lotion. If you’re looking for a heavy duty moisturizer, you’ll have to look elsewhere.
