| bops_mom's Full Review: Benefit Smoooch |
BeneFit’s Smooch is one product I’d wanted to try for quite some time. Mostly I was wondering if and how a lip balm type product could possible worth $18. In the interest of full disclosure I will tell you right now that I have a love/hate relationship with BeneFit Cosmetics. I seem to either love the product or think it’s 100% worthless. I don’t tend to find products in between since they’re so pricey and generally come with such hyped up claims; they really had better perform well! Product Information BeneFit Cosmetics Smooch is a white lotion type substance that comes packaged in a tube with wand applicator. The tube holds 0.25 oz. of product and costs around $18. Benefit calls Smooch a “chapped lip smoother” and recommends you use this product twice a day. My Experience I really had no idea what to expect from BeneFit’s Smoooch. It’s no surprise that I’m a big fan of lip balms and lip gloss – I’d really love to try them all if such a thing was even possible. I have to say that BeneFit’s Smoooch is unlike any other lip product I’ve ever used. It’s not a gloss, it’s not a balm. It’s basically a lotion and it feels like I’m putting lotion on my lips. It was almost creepy feeling at first and felt like I had put my facial moisturizer on my lips. I had to resist the desire to wipe it off until I got used to it. The scent of the product is odd…. It’s got a light almost medicinal un-scent which while not entirely unpleasant is certainly not a scent I would choose. The flavor is not good. It’s got a really gross, bitter flavor. This would be an added bonus to those who have chapped lips because they can’t seem to stop licking off yummy tasting lip balms. I don’t have a habit of licking my lips but I am used to my glosses or lip balms having a fairly good flavor should I wind up ingesting some while say – drinking a glass of water. My lips are generally not dry. I think the main reasons for that are: I drink a lot of water daily and I use a very hydrating lip product at night just prior to going to bed. Which lip product can vary, but it will always be very moisturizing. Of course in the winter months I have to use a lip balm or hydrating gloss a few times during the day and if things get bad enough I pull out the amazing Mary Kay Satin Lip's Lip Mask. After using BeneFit’s Smoooch for quite some time I can honestly say it is not better at hydrating my lips than any other moisturizing lip balm or gloss (the vast majority of which taste better and cost much less). It does moisturize my lips and it does seem to protect them from outside elements while on my lips. But again many other lip products do the exact same thing – and just as well. When I use it overnight generally wake up with a little product still on my lips. I tend not to use it during the day as if you apply a certain amount it looks like you have white, gloppy goo on your lips. Not attractive. And so This is not a horrible product. It works; it hydrates and protects the lips. The tube with wand applicator makes applying it very easy. However, the scent, flavor and price leave me no choice but to tell you – you’d be wasting your hard earned money if you spent $18 on BeneFit’s Smoooch. There are less expensive products out there that work just as well.
A few of my favorite very hydrating lip products: Philosophy Green Apple Lip Shine (and any Philosophy Lip Shine, really) Korres's Quince Lip Butter Too Faced Bunny/Beauty Balm Eyeko's Strawberry Fat Balm
