kandscreeley's Full Review: Stan Berenstain and Jan Berenstain - The Berenstai...
This is one of my favorite Children's Books Series, and I think that it really says something about the books that they are still popular.
Quick Facts Title:The Berenstain Bears Go To School

Plot
There is a whole series of these books that are written by Stan and Jan Berenstain. They are about a family of bears who live in a tree house. Their names are Papa Bear, Mama Bear, Brother Bear, and Sister Bear. These bears live out their daily lives, and through them we not only get to read an interesting story, but we also can learn something.
In this story Summer is almost over, and Sister Bear is facing her first day of school. She's going into Kindergarten, and truth be told, she's a little bit nervous. Mama and Sister Bear get to go to the school a little bit early so that they can meet her teacher. Unfortunately, Sister Bear is still not convinced even after seeing the classroom. We get to walk with Sister Bear through her first day of school and see all the wonderful things that she does.
Pros
These stories have survived so long and been printed numerous times because they are not only interesting, they also are able to teach your children a lesson. Each one is appropriate at some time in your child's life. This would be a good book to read to your children before they start Kindergarten. It's not one they would be able to read themselves even in Kindergarten, but they'll love you reading it to them while they look at the wonderful illustrations. This might ease some of their own nervousness after seeing how great a time Sister Bear had. Also, when your children get a little bit older, they will still enjoy reading it themselves because it's just a fun story. Also, the story isn't very long, and there isn't too much on one page. Usually only a few sentences or at the most two small paragraphs.
Cons
The only semi-negative thing I can think of about this book is that it's addressing issues before entering Kindergarten, but it's on about a Second Grade Reading Level. However, it's a great read aloud story.
This sympathetic story about Sister Bear, who conquers her fear of starting kindergarten "may help ease those first day fears"--"School Library Journa...More at Glyde
