| Chewy's Full Review: Bertucci's Brick Oven Pizzeria |
Ok, time for a little ranting: Epinions is starting to get on my nerves. They never have the thing I want to write about or the EXACT location of the place I want to write about. Bertucci's Brick Oven Pizzeria is also located in Maryland and I'm sure in many other locations. Having only the Boston location is annoying and limits what I have to say about the Bertucci's I went to. We all know that separate stores (esp. restaurants) of the same chain can be different on many levels: service, price, atmosphere, etc. There NEEDS to be a sub-category for locations.
Sorry about that, but I had to get it off my chest :) Now for the opinion on the Bertucci's in Timonium, Maryland
Friendliness
When we arrived, there were at least 20 people ahead of us and a 30-minute wait. The hostess was nice - and attractive :) - and put our party down on the waiting list. To waste the 30 minutes, we decided to play a prank on a couple of friends of ours who were eating at another restaurant five minutes away. So we told the hostess to hold our table in case we weren't back within the 30 minutes - and she was totally fine with that! It was like were we treated as VIPs :)
After the prank was done, we came back and sat at our table. The waiter took our drinks and eventually our orders. His service was a little shaky at first (didn't bring out all the drinks), but he eventually picked it up (perpetual asking how the meal was and refills). All in all, he seemed to know what he was doing, but he rubbed one of my friends the wrong way. I didn't bother asking why, but I'm sure there was some reason. So, that's why I'd say the service was a pro and a con.
Atmosphere
Like I said before, this place is a friendly place. You wouldn't feel intimidated at all. In fact, there was an old couple wearing HUGE hats on their heads while they ate their dinner. That made my day :) It's a well lit, one level building that's constantly moving. Busy, busy place. It's a great place to bring a date to.
Food
As the title says, stick with what Bertucci's is known for - BRICK OVEN PIZZA. Their pizza is, perhaps, the most delicious, salivating, tasty pizza I've ever had. It even beats the NY pizza I love so much On top of that, they have many varieties of their pizza - not just the typical plain cheese pizza. Their starting bread is also VERY VERY good. My opinion on it may be a bit biased because we got a batch of bread that JUST came out of the oven, so it was piping hot. Nonetheless, I'm sure the bread would be amazing, unless it came from the freezer :) The dessert was also very good, but of small portions for a steep price.
I do have to say, however, that their entree food is under par. I went with normal pasta w/ mushrooms and chicken (forget the exact name), expecting it to be "wet", but it was VERY DRY. After each bite, I had to take a sip of my soda. Heck, I cook better tasting spaghetti at home on the stove! My friends also weren't impressed with the pasta. I think Bertucci's tried to be an Italian restaurant instead of a pizzeria.
Cost
I don't remember the exact costs for everything, but this is my best guess:
Soda - $1.50
2 slices of pizza - $4
Entree - $12
Dessert - $4
Not like you need me to say this again, but as you can see from the prices, it is definitely not worth buying their entrees. Just stick w/ their pizza and you'll be a happy camper.
Miscellaneous Comments
One thing I forgot to mention is that this place doesn't have a take out section, meaning you can't order two slices to go (like all the other pizzerias). Nothing serious at all, but it would be a nice additive. Lastly, I only gave this place 3/5 stars because of their poor quality "other" food. Had I just stuck w/ their pizza, I would have easily given it 4/5 or even 4.5/5.
Good luck.
