| Ralph-A's Full Review: Bertucci's Brick Oven Pizzeria |
I've been eating at Bertuccis here on Long Island for several years, usually about once a month. there are three on Long Island that I know of, and I usually visit the Hauppauge restaurant. One of the good things about this location of Bertucci's chain is that it's basically in an industrial park, so the wait here is far less then it would be elsewhere, in one of their other restaurants.
Bertucci's offers a wide variety of pasta's and true brick over pizza's (Try the "Sporkie" that's my favorite)as well as salads and deserts. They update their menu at least twice a year that I can see. Which usually means two things. 1) there are a few new items added, and 2) The prices have risen again.
When you enter Bertucci's a pretty girl(where do they find these girls???) is always there to seat you, or tell you how long a wait you have ahead of you, and they seemingly are on the money when it comes to wait time. If they say 10 minutes, it's ten minutes. When you sit, you almost immediately are asked what your pleasure is as far as something to quench your thirst. I usually go for either a diet soda or an unsweetened iced tea, and the refills are on the house (Good policy there, that more restaurants should adopt)When the waitress returns with your drink, they automatically bring you a basket for usually fresh baked rolls as well. Delicioso! Some pasta/meat meals come with a salad, with your choice of three dressings. If it doesn't come with it, you can always add it for $3.49 add'l. (During the lunch hours in the afternoon, all the meals come with salads) Appetizers are varied and good, my favorite being the three cheese Focaccia, but there is something for everyone there.
There are few downsides to the actual meal menu, though. One off the top of my head is the rigatoni Polpetti (Meatballs) for some reason, the meatballs just aren't tasty to me. My favorite picks off the menu are the Veal Parmagiana (Though the portion of veal is somewhat skimpy)the Rigatoni Abruzzi, which is a spicy pasta dish with peppers. The baked rigatoni with sausage, and my all time favorite the Broccoli & Chicken in white wine sauce, over Rigatoni. The portions on the pasta only meals are more then adequate, meaning you won't be going home hungry, and if you are still hungry, just ask for another basket of fresh baked rolls, they'll bring it with a smile. If desert is what you're craving, be advised that these are somewhat small, and usually not worth ordering, though the Tiramisu is definitely tasty.
All in all, Bertucci's is an excellent choice for Italian fare, that is more then just a poor example of Italian fast food (Like Olive Garden is.)It stands well on its own with family owned and operated Italian restaurants, and is well worth putting on your rotating friday night menu of restaurants to choose from.
