| jps246's Full Review: Quality Inn Petersburg |
If you're traveling along Interstate 95 through Southern Virginia and you're looking for an inexpensive place to stay, the Quality Inn in Petersburg, Virginia is a decent place to spend the night. We were on our way to Myrtle Beach and decided to call it a night when we were in the Petersburg area. We had one of those discount coupon guides for the highway and the Quality Inn won out over the others at the exit since it advertised a free hot breakfast. The hotel is easily accessible off of I95, not even a mile down the road from the highway. There's a ton of parking surrounding the entire hotel and it does have a restaurant that serves lunch and dinner (but no breakfast) next door. In the front of the hotel is the check-in/registration area and it's also where the pool is. Check In Checking in was really easy. We arrived around 9 at night and so the lobby was pretty empty except for us. We handed over our coupon for the room, provided some information and we were ready to go with our room keys. With the discount coupon the room cost us $59 and I don't think it would have been all that much more if we didn't have the coupon - like $65. Our Room We had a room on the 2nd floor of the hotel (there's only 2 floors). Turns out there's only stair access to the second floor, but with only a small bag for the night, it wasn't a big deal. If you don't want stairs, I'd suggest speaking up when you're checking in. The room was a standard room with a king sized bed. In addition to the bed, we had a small dresser that doubled as a TV stand, along with a desk and a chair in the main part of the room. In the back of the room was the bathroom, where the sink and mirror were in an alcove at the back, and then the shower and the toilet were in a separate room off of that. The only real problems with the room were that the room with the toilet and shower was really too small for the two of them and the room had a distinct smoke smell. For the room with the toilet and shower, you had to push the door past the toilet to get it to shut since the space was so tight. The smoke smell was a bit more annoying, especially since it was a non-smoking room. We couldn't open a window, so we turned on the a/c with the fan on high and that helped at least freshen it up a bit. Besides that though, there really wasn't anything to complain about. The bed was comfortable enough for a night or two of sleeping and there were enough pillows too for the both of us, which is something we don't run across too often when we're staying at hotels (we usually have to call for extra). Breakfast The reason we stayed at the hotel in the first place was the free "hot breakfast buffet" that they were advertising. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but when we walked into the breakfast area, my first though was "where's the hot food." Turns out it's more like a 'fast food hot breakfast buffet' since for any of the hot items (eggs, sausage, french toast), you had to microwave them first. It sounds a bit odd, but it didn't taste all that bad and with the other stuff they had, you could have a filling breakfast. In addition to the eggs, sausage and french toast, there were muffins, fresh fruit, cereal, bagels and toast. You could get coffee or juice to drink too. I'll admit to being a bit disappointed, but I left feeling full and it gave us a head start on our trip down since we didn't need to stop somewhere else to get breakfast. Checking Out This was really easy. Just handed over the room keys, signed the bill and we were off. Final Thoughts While I was a bit disappointed with the hot breakfast, overall I thought this was a decent hotel. If I had to stay in the area again, I wouldn't mind staying here, since I know what I'll be getting and overall the rooms and the bed were pretty good. I'd say if you're looking for a inexpensive hotel in the Petersburg area, the Quality Inn is a decent choice.
