Pros: EXCELLENT value. Great security. Beautiful views. Staff helpful and friendly.
Cons: Rooms are outdated. And don't even bother with lobby computer.
The Bottom Line: If you want a five-star hotel, go elsewhere. If you want a decent room in a beautiful old hotel for a great bargain, GO HERE.

| missmaryj's Full Review: Best Western Mayfair Hotel |
From the outside, the Mayfair looks like a stately towering old hotel from a movie. It's brick exterior is impressive. The lobby is enormous and opulent. The lobby is so nice, in fact, that you'd be surprised and a little disappointed with the rooms - if you hadn't scored such a bargain on the room price; if you book through the hotel's website, it will save you a great deal ~ I never pay more than $60 a night. If you've stayed in downtown Los Angeles before, you know this is an excellent deal.
YES, it is in a "bad" area. But I have traveled alone (and I am a 20s-age female) and I have never had anyone outside bother me other than to ask for change or give me the twice-over. If you ignore them and keep on your way, there will be no further botherance. I don't understand, for the LIFE of me - why people are so scared. It's really rather silly. Just use common SENSE and you'll have no worries.
Hotel is in a prime location. It is close to any convention, game, the fashion district. It's a cab ride/quick drive from USC if you happen to be visiting your offspring. Walking distance to the Staples Center and the Metro train station (which will take you anywhere you need to go in the city).
Ask for the highest floor possible when you check in - if nothing else, you will LOVE the skyline views. Particularly at sunrise and sunset.
The rooms are relatively clean and comfortable. YES, they are in need of an update. But let's be realistic - could this hotel afford to charge so little if they underwent serious update and renovation?? Probably not.
The guests are a mix of tourists and businesspeople. IF YOU ARE WORRIED about security, you needn't be ~ the hotel lobby is LOCKED at night and the doorman lets you in when you present your key. Alternately, if you PARK in the garage, it is also very secure and you come in through a back entrance.
My mother and baby sister stayed at this hotel when visiting before I moved away from the city. On return visits, I have stayed there by myself. Once for a week. And I never had anything bad happen.
The bathrooms are nice and clean ~ the tub is very small Euro style. Don't plan on taking a bath.
Overall, I would ABSOLUTELY reccomend this hotel to anyone who needed a reasonably priced room in this area of the city.
