Anyone who has ever owned a Jeep, early Bronco - any off-road vehicle with a removable soft top knows that the plastic windows get scratched quite easily.
This is especially true when you put the top down on a warm day. What do you do with your windows? Well, you either leave them in the garage, unzip them and toss them into the back seat or you simply roll the windows up and snap/Velcro them into place.
Well, those days are gone now that Bestop (and Smittybilt) have come up with the best window storage solutions. Once the side and rear windows are unzipped and removed, they can be placed into this felt-lined sleeve. All three windows are separated and when rolled up for storage, are safe from scratches or the elements.
One word of caution, windows get scratched the easiest when they're dirty and dry friction occurs. Either by rolling them up or by wiping them dry if they're dirty they will scratch. You should clean the windows before rolling them or storing them in this sleeve. Bestop makes cleaners and polishing compounds specifically designed for the plastic windows, but dish washing liquid and some water work just fine.
Once the windows are stored in the sleeve, they can easily be stowed under the back seat or trunk area. And since the outer fabric is the same heavy duty "Haartz Denim" fabric used in the making of the soft tops, the storage sleeve should hold up to abuse for years.
I own one and swear by it. Sure it takes a few extra minutes to stow them away safely, but it's worth the $45-$75 price tag (depending on vendor and manufacturer). Replacement windows can easily be triple that cost. The alternative is looking through badly scratched windows - and we all know how annoying that can be.
For those times that I remove the soft top when I'm out on the road, I carry a spray bottle filled with dish washing soap and water. It makes it easy to clean on the fly. If space is limited, you could also carry pre-moistened wipes. Just remember, NEVER wipe your plastic windows with a dry towel - even if the window is not that dirty - you will scratch it up.
Bestop also makes storage solutions for hard or soft doors and hard tops. They're available at any Bestop dealer (Quadratec, 4 Wheel Parts, Acme, etc) and on eBay.
UPDATE: I have to say that after my friend purchased the Smittybilt version of this window storage, I prefer the design of the Smittybilt unit better. It's more substantial and offers more protection.
