It is always fun to try different office supplies. Over a month ago in my new desk at work, I discovered the Bic Brite Liner Grip highlighter. I immediately set to using it.


Description

This smooth round highlighter is 5 1/2" long with a 3/8" diameter around the grip portion of the barrel. The barrel is primarily yellow, to indicate the color of the yellow highlighter, with black accents around the middle of the barrel and the pocket clip.

The black accent area around the middle of the barrel indicates where the highlighter separates from the cap. Removing the cap reveals not only the tip of the highlighter but the 1 1/2" long rubberized grip. The grip area is soft and textured. The end of the cap has several slits in it to aid in breathing should the cap accidentally be swallowed.

Bic Brite Liner Grip highlighters have a narrow chisel tip. This highlighter offers a bright yellow water-based ink. If yellow is not your color, this highlighter also comes in pink, blue, green and orange.


My Experiences

This is a really nice highlighter. Bic says they invented the first highlighter with a comfort grip. All I can say is ... thank you! The rubberized grip is exceedingly comfortable. It makes this highlighter a pleasure to use.

The highlighter ink flows smoothly from the chiseled tip. It is a bright fluorescent color that shows up well against white paper. Since the tip is chiseled, it produces both a narrow and broad line. My one complaint about this highlighter is that no matter how I hold the tip against the paper, the line never writes as wide as I wish. The broadest line I can write doesn’t quite cover a line of small-case Times New Roman 12-point print. For example, in the word “enlargement”, the bottom extension of the “g” and the top piece of the “l” is not covered by the highlighter while the rest of the text is covered.

Highlighting text, to produce the width of eye-catching yellow that I prefer ... I need to swipe the highlighter twice across the page to completely cover a line of text.

I have used this highlighter on laser print, photocopies, ballpoint pen and pencil. It does a great job covering each of these. Holding a sheet of 20-pound copy paper, I can see the lines of highlighter on the other side. However, the ink does not bleed through the page. The also dries very quickly.

This is a very easy highlighter to use. I also like the fact that it is easy to tell that the cap has snapped back into place. It offers an audible click as the two halves of the highlighter join together. The pocket clip is also sturdy, holding well to a several papers or a notebook cover.


Purchasing

I have seen these highlighters for sale at my local department store for about 75-cents each. Most often I see them in a package of mixed colors for about $3.99.


Summary

I am happy to use this Bic Brite Liner Grip bright yellow highligher. It writes smoothly, doesn’t bleed through the paper, and offers eye-catching color. The one thing I would change is the width of the chisel tip. A wider tip would cover my text more efficiently. Other than that one minor complaint, I highly recommend this highlighter. It does a great job!
