| Freak369's Full Review: BIC America Gsfg11 Bk Round Stic Grip Ballpoint Pe... |
In a lot of ways the BIC Round Stic Grip pen is almost identical to the BIC Cristal Grip Stic Pen. Visually they look the same, come in the same colors, are sold by the dozen, have the same ink flow and ballpoint design and cost about the same. So whats different? The rubber comfort grip, the cap style and shape of the pen tip. So for all intents and purposes, this makes for a very close substitute if you cant find the other when shopping for office supplies or if you happen to come across them on sale. The family of BIC Round Stic pens all carry the same quality and style but the best part is that over 90% of them are inexpensive and a nice alternative to those that need to be or can be refilled. For about .25 - .30 cents a pen, this version of the BIC classic is one of my top picks for general writing and has fast become a favorite of the brood as well.
Features
The best feature of this pen is the rubber comfort grip. This allows you to write for longer periods of time without hand cramps or finger discomfort. The grip area is large enough to accommodate any style of writer but no so large that it makes it difficult to remove or replace the cap. And speaking of the cap, this is the full sized cap, none of those small wimpy caps that get lost easily or seem to fit every other pen on the planet. It has the same frosted hue as the body of the pen and fits snuggly on the pen so having them fall off when inside a backpack or knapsack is something you will never have to worry about. The ink flows nicely with no clumping or spitting and rarely have I experienced any smudging since the ink dried almost instantly. This is a great pen to use when you are producing multiple copies with carbon paper or carbonless copies and the ink shows up nicely on photocopies however you may have some trouble with the red and green inks showing up as dark as the black and blue colors.
Colors
This pen is available in four colors; red, black, blue and green. Its unsure if BIC will be adding colors to this specific line of pens but if you are looking for more color you can check out the Cristal Grip Colors [green, purple pink, turquoise] or the Shimmers line [green, purple pink, turquoise] that will be getting new colors towards the end of the year. All of the colors of the Round Stic Grip variety are strong and bold, have quick drying ink and are almost smudge proof. Removing the ink from clothing or skin is easy providing that you catch it quick enough so this is great for younger kids to use for homework or general writing.
Price
The dozen will set you back about $2.50 - $3.00 depending on where you shop for your office supplies. Office Depot and Office Max usually have these in stock for about $2.75 but you can catch them on sale a few times a year and these are also offered as free gifts with certain purchases. If you dont want to invest in a dozen, they are available in smaller lots at places like Wal-Mart and Target but would you rather pay $1.09 for three pens or $3.00 for twelve? Even though I have some expensive pens like the Cross Ion I tend to grab these more often when I am on the road, for the boys field trips and when I am in the office. For the price, they cant be beat.
The Bottom Line
This is a great pen for everyday writing needs and since it is relatively inexpensive if you happen to lose a few its no big deal. Available by the dozen or in three packs, this is one of BICs better disposable pens and well worth checking out if you are looking for something a little more stylish and the regular assortment. Be sure to check out all the great pens and writing tools that BIC offers at their official website - www.bicworld.com. As always, thanks for the visit!
