The Perfect Pool for Toddlers

Pros:not too small, not too big, durable
Cons:no cover

Two years ago, as our daughter was approaching her 1st birthday, we began to look at baby pools and the like as our gift to her. We skipped right over the $5.00 plastic pools as we wanted something that would last more than one week or one summer. We also wanted a pool that we might be able to enjoy ourselves.

We were in luck when we came across the Step 2 Big Splash Center. This pool is made of very durable teal green plastic along the same lines as Little Tikes toys. The depth of the pool at 2 feet was something we felt comfortable with having our daughter playing in. The overall size of the pool allows 1 adult and 2 children to play comfortably as we do in our family. The pool also has 2 built-in shelf-like seats for those children (like my youngest) who do not like to sit directly in the water.

The pool also has an area on one end that allows you to attach other Step 2 products such as slides. When we purchased this pool, we were not interested in any attachments as we felt our daughter was too young at 12 months. However, now that our daughters are 3 years and 22 months, we have purchased the Step 2 slide. The slide locks securely into the notched area at one end of the pool and has been a great entertainment add-on!!

Other features of this pool (good and bad) are:

1) The bottom draining hole - simply pull the plug and the pool self drains - no need to break your back tipping the pool!!

2) Easy to clean - simply wipe clean with a damp towel. The pool is lightweight enough that you can lift it (empty), spray with the hose, then wipe clean.

3) No cover - a cover to this pool would be nice. Yes, you can cover it with tarp or the like, but a cover would be nice.

The Step 2 Big Splash Center has been a great addition to summer time fun in our backyard. After 2 years of rough and tumble from 2 toddlers and enduring the summer weather of intense heat and the occasional rain, this pool is still as good as new! The investment has proven to be a good one!
