Pros:Leaves hair soft and very silky
Cons:Price (but you don't use much at a time, so it lasts)
The Bottom Line: Great product. Just remember to shake that bottle or you might get burned!
Previous reviews were unanimously positive. Epinions Beauty Top Reviewers thought it was fantastic; even my Dear Sister thought the stuff was divine. This hair styling aid would leave my frizzy, dry hair silky smooth and smelling great. The website touts this as a replenishing and reconstructive treatment and even claims it can repair split ends. With expectations high, I set out to get my own container of BIOSILK Silk Therapy.

My local CVS Pharmacy provided me with the goods; however, once I got home, I looked at the bottle, and noticed that the front of the bottle simply said BIOSILK Silk Therapy. Cure soyeuse; Locion con seda Lotion with silk? I wanted a hair product, not a lotion. Grumbling, I trudged back to CVS and returned the skin lotion for a refund. Got back home again, and checked those Epinions reviews again, looking at the picture. Drat! I had initially purchased the right stuff after all! Back to CVS, and repurchased the same bottle!
Yes, there is nothing on the front of this bottle beyond Silk Therapy written in English, Spanish and French. No clue that this is a hair product! One would have to read the very small print on the back to discover that this product may be used on wet or dry hair or skin. Use as often as necessary. Oddly, the bottle doesnt actually have any information about what this product is actually supposed to accomplish!
Anyway, how did it work out?
What is this stuff like?
Its an oily, clear fluid, but not sticky. Its easy to pour it from the flip-top clear container. The clear bottle is indented on one side, making it easy to grip. I found that I required about two to three dime sized globs of this product to have an effect. I simply rubbed it onto my palms and then applied to my hair, attempting to concentrate on the ends and dry spots. My hair, which is thick and three inches below shoulder length, seemed to drink the stuff right in. My hair is subjected to blowdrying and straightening irons on a regular basis and tends to be dry. I generally use BIOSILK on dry hair. I have not used it on my skin.
Heres the good news:
It makes my hair silkier to the touch and tames the frizz. It does not make my hair flat or greasy. It does add nice shine, too. It is amazing how well this product works!
Heres some more good news that started out as bad news:
After using this product a few times, I developed a reaction to it. Basically, within a minute or so of applying it, the back of my neck began to feel warm, then started to really BURN. In addition, I found the fragrance to be a bit overpowering and lingering, and it nearly made me cough. However, I reported this reaction to Farouk and was instructed to shake the bottle before using the product, as the alcohol may have risen to the top. Indeed, the instructions say to do that. To my surprise and delight, that has solved both the burning and the overwhelming fragrance. Yippee! I've got my silky hair now!
Heres some bad news:
This stuff is pricier than many other hair care products. This small five ounce bottle can set you back around $13-17, although I note that there seem to be some better prices on Ebay.
Main ingredients: Cyclomethicone, dimethicone, alcohol, Panthenol, Ethyl ester of hydrolyzed silk.
Want to learn more about the origin of silk?
I don't want to go too off topic in this review, but see the comment I just added if you wish to learn about the origin of silk and the plight of silkworms.

This product REALLY WORKS! I'm amazed at how silky my hair feels after using it. I have also sheepishly learned to read and follow directions, even on a hair styling aid! Thanks to all the previous Epinions Biosilk reviewers, including my sister, for steering me to this product. Sorry, silkworms.
