wizeone123's Full Review: MATRIX Biolage Detangling Solution 13.5 oz
Here's the scene of my disaster: it is a hot, muggy, summer afternoon in Atlanta and I'm driving down the interstate in my Jeep. Top down, wind is hitting me in all directions. The road is a blur, my sunglasses tremble to stay on, my hair has long flung itself from the confines of a hair clip. My joy ride comes to an end, and the joy ends there! My hair lies in a knotted heap atop my head. Stringy and matted from the day's abuse. Almost as if I had actually used SuperGlue as my conditioner that morning.
And keep in mind I have very long hair--midway down my back. And it tangles very easily due to damage sustained from coloring, flat irons, and blow dryers. So when my hair is tangled, it is a jungle. As I tirelessly dragged and pulled and tugged and yanked at knot after unrelenting knot with my usually faithful paddle brush.. I began to panic. Honestly, there were about 10 minutes when I actually was considering the best way to cut these knots out without leaving too many little bald spots (yeah..TOTAL panic!!). But before I resorted to such measures, I desperately searched around under the bathroom sink for some sort of "miracle" product to remedy this disaster! Somebody up there must like me, because I came across a dusty, forgotten bottle of Biolage Detangling Solution that my grandmother had given me years ago, because it was too heavy of a conditioner for her fine hair. With a promise on the bottle of: "Leaves hair tangle-free with healthy, natural shine". I decided to give it a try, knowing very well that if it didn't prevail, my hair would be left wet and lathered-- i.e. even more knotted. But beggars can't be choosers and so I gave it a go.
Use/Results:
The product is light blue and thick. It has a very soft, airy scent (it reminds me of how the cleaning product Febreeze smells). I completely saturated my hair with it-- with about 4 times the recommended amount (a dime to quarter sized amount is recommended for daily use--depending on thickness of hair). Once I was sure that it had time to soak in (about 5 minutes), I shakily took my wide-toothed comb and placed it at my scalp. From the top, I drew it down, and to my shock, the comb glided from root to ends! Barely even a snag along the way! Maybe it had made my hair fall out..maybe I was just being delusional in my panic...there's no way it could have tamed those untamable knots. But with a glance in the mirror-- my hair lay smooth-- a clean slate, ready for more abuse. Not a trace of my joy ride evident.
As a Daily Conditioner:
For the rest of that day, my hair was limp and oily. Obviously because I hadn't been able to completely wash away all the residue from my over indulged, emergency rescue (a titanic load of conditioner and the hard water at my house--not a pretty match!) So after a great rinse a couple days later with a clarifying shampoo, I decided to see what the results would be had I used it as a daily conditioner. Sadly, the results were not good for me. My hair was frizzy and appeared lacking in moisture. Almost as if I had skipped conditioning all together. But then, a few hours later, it fell completely flat. Void of all bounce. As a daily conditioner, I would rate it a weak 2 stars at best (when used on thick, wavy hair that is mild- moderately damaged).
So here's what I do: if ever I'm in need of detangling, I simply use it after my regular shampoo/conditioner regime. I take a very small amount, rub it between my palms into a thin film, and glaze it over my hair--raking it into the tips. It doesn't affect or alter my usual results, and leaves my hair completely tangle free. What more could you ask? Performance as a solitary, daily conditioner aside, this is the best detangler for any kind of knotted hair emergency you might encounter.
Thank You, Biolage!!
Whenever I want to glue something--buttons to plastic, those little googly eyes to fabric (don't ask! I'm a weirdo who loves crafts)-- and be assured that it will hold like the Hoover Dam, I turn to SuperGlue. Is there really any other glue? SuperGlue is the mother of all glues. And so when it comes to a detangler, I want the mother of them all. And I found just that: Biolage Detangling Solution . The girl with still the long, full head of hair sitting here today is very glad she did!
