My youngest daughter recently celebrated her second birthday. It's amazing how quickly time is flying with this child versus my first daughter where time simply took its time. My first daughter simply asked once for a Bear in the Big Blue House set of plates for her second birthday. Not this one. She started insisting that she had to have an Elmo cake for her birthday a good three months before the big day. I have no idea where she figured out what a birthday was all about and that she was going to have one and what it entailed but she did. We did not plan to throw her a big party. Once I got the Elmo cake pan to make her cake and realized we were going to have a lot of cake and maybe we should just invite a few kids over for a play date, cake and candles.

It was interesting looking at the Sesame Street themed paper products for this last minute birthday party. They had some 1st Birthday themed stuff but that wasn't appropriate since it was a 2nd birthday. There was an Elmo themed pattern that just seemed too busy and there there was the Sesame Smiles line.

Sesame Smiles resembles the Fisher Price Sesame Street Stack and Nest Stacking Cups that my kids have used for years. Each design is on a solid background the same color as the character depicted with just the main features of the face such as the mouth and eyes as the design. In the case of these smile inducing dessert plates, they are a bright red color with Elmo's eyes, nose and laughing mouth. You can't help but smile when you look at Elmo's face on these plates.

The kids all went nuts over the Elmo cake and over the plates. They were just the right size for the squares of cake we cut and perfect for little hands to handle. I didn't see the need to buy the larger Big Bird luncheon plates since all we served was cake and some platters of cut up vegetables for the adults to munch on.

I thought these plates were pretty sturdy (although no Chinette) and were easily up to the task of holding a single piece of cake without warping.

If you are hosting a Sesame Street themed party, the Sesame Street Sesame Smiles 7" Dessert Plates are incredibly cute. You simply can't go wrong purchasing this product unless your little one is scared of Elmo which is quite unlikely, based upon his almost universal popularity.
