The Bissell 3545-1 is a lightweight upright bagged vacuum that can easily be found for $65-$80. It comes with a wand extension, crevice tool, and combination apolstry/dust tool. The vacuum has a dirt bypass designed to ensure long motor life. The design of this vacuum also provides a quiet cleaning experience. It is an attractive blue color, compact, and lightweight. It has a 13 inch cleaning area, with duel edge cleaning , and a light in front. The 3545-1 has a multi stage filtration system with a separate microfilter for the exhaust air. It is of sturdy plastic construction. Assembly is one step and takes 5 min.
This vacuum is a very good standard vacuum. I bought it as a second vacuum to be use in a detached room of my house. I own a $300 vacuum (Sharp) that I use in the rest of my house. The Bissell 3545-1 lacks some of the features my more expensive vacuum (i.e. no variable power adjustment, can not disable brushes, manual hight adjustment) but it cleans just as good. I do prefer the bag type vacuums over the bagless. Lets face it, dealing with dumping out a canister of dust and filth is not worth it. Bags for the 3545-1 are $2/bag and belts are $1.50/belt. They can easily be purchased directly from Bissell at www.bissell.com. The bags are large and will last for months with normal cleaning. (In 6 months I havent changed a belt yet.) So you can leave your dirt in the bag.
So why is this sub $100 vacuum better than the rest?
There are many sub $100 vacuums on the market today. Hoover, Dirt Devil, Eurica, the list goes on. The sub $100 models made by these companies are JUNK. The are loud and will clog frequently under normal use. The secret to the Bissell is in its design. The suction area around the brushes was designed to offer a more even distributed suction. This means no clogging and better cleaning. The Bissell is also designed to run much quieter than the others. It is even quieter than my $300 vacuum. The overall construction is built to last. Most sub $100 vacuums are disposable after several months or less.
Oh yes......there is one other reason for buying this vacuum. It cleans great. 12 amps of cleaning power means clean rugs and floors with one pass. There are 7 hight adjustments for different floor surfaces. Hardwood to deep pile, this vacuum cleans them all.
Dont be fooled by some other name brands. Hoover and Eurica vacuums are not very durable and there sub $100 models are trash. Dirt Devil vacuums look good but are notorious for clogging and uneven flow. Buy the Bissel you will be happy.
I bought mine at Best Buy for $65. Bought extra bags (3 for $5.99) and belts (2 for 2.99) on-line at www.bissell.com.
