| remnjava's Full Review: Bissell 6700 Butler Revolution Bagged Canister Va... |
We just redecorated our front room and living room. We put down laminate flooring and added Oriental rugs. The literature from the rug company said to use a vacuum without a beater bar on the rugs. That leaves us with HOW many alternatives...?
Hubby went to work on the internet, trying to find the best solution for our rug cleaning problem. One place he went to was www.amazon.com. They offered this Bissell Butler vacuum for $60. If you applied for a charge card through them, you could charge it to their charge card and buy it for only $30. (Although they promised delivery in mid October, we received it about two weeks later.)The question was...did it WORK?
We received the Bissell Butler canister vacuum last week and belatedly put it to work yesterday. One area I was anxious to clean was the area behind the heavy nightstands and dresser. It had been, "too long," since these areas had been cleaned. If we had a serious car wreck, I'd be ashamed if someone came to clean out the house. I could hear it now, "My word, Matilda! When is the last time these folks moved their 300 pound dresser and dusted behind it!!!???" I took off the rug attachment and made quick work of this area. It made lots of little "dust bunnies," in the clear dirt catcher which is attached to the cleaning wand. (capacity, about 3-4 cups)
Next task: Carpeting The vacuum head has Velcro type material before and after the suction, to help dislodge the fragments from your floor, and encourage them to go up the tube. Again, we were amazed just how much dirt was on our "clean," carpeting. It caught dust, and hair, leaving the soil on the bottom of the tube, inside the clear dirt catcher.*
Cleaning: The vacuum is a breeze to clean. I don't like the idea of buying and changing vacuum bags. All it takes is a twist of the clear dirt catcher to get rid of the dirt. I suppose you could use a Swiffer on a stick or rolling pin if you wanted to get it perfectly clean, like new. Canine hair does tend to collect along the wheels. It might be static electricity. There is a second bag, a paper one, inside the canister. I haven't had to change that yet; it doesn't seem to fill up quickly.
Accessories:
20' cord that retracts at the touch of a button, located next to the off/on button, on top of the machine;
Ergonomic handle to lift the vacuum, balanced on top of the machine, folding down on top of the unit;
The aluminum suction wand telescopes, longer and shorter;
You can attach a dusting brush directly to the wand (beware of catching plastic bags and curtains without this attachment!);
Floor head with option for carpet or hard surface flooring. You can buy 3 bags and two filters from Bissell for $8. I'm not sure what they cost locally; we haven't had to buy them yet.
It was cloudy when I tackled this work. One thing my old, dusty, flea-bitten Kirby has that this lacked was a lighted vacuum head. But then again for a $30 vacuum, I guess I can turn on the lights.
*We recently used this on a rug with dark short pile. To the best of our knowledge it had lint from white towels on the burgandy carpet. This was a PAIN to pick up! I went over the carpet again and again, and finally just picked it up. A couple of months ago we used a powder rug deodorizer. (Keep this powder deodorizer away from your computer tower, or it can lodge in the fan, your computer can overheat and burn out your CPU!) I was amazed at just how much powder got picked up. It just didn't do a great job with towel lint.
