Cons: Only moderate heating capabilities, Small water tank
The Bottom Line: This is a great machine for freshening up worn carpets, but be aware of its limitations. With the right expectations, this is a great tool to have around the house.
knk391's Full Review: Bissell 9400 ProHeat Upright Wet/Dry Vacuum
After purchasing a house which had less than stellar carpeting, my husband and I decided to try giving the area a once over with a deep cleaner before investing in new flooring. We decided to go with the Bissell ProHeat model after reading user reviews and comparing prices on several different machines.
The machine itself was very easy to put together it required only a couple of screws, and was assembled in about 10 minutes. Using the machine was a little more cumbersome. The tank is relatively small, so if you are attempting to do more than just spot cleaning, it will require multiple fills of water. Cleaning solution was included with the machine and so far has stretched quite well across several cleaning jobs. The PowerBrush runs smoothly and relatively quietly, and there are three settings for different types of jobs (including a water-only mode if you do not want to use the cleaning solution.)
While the description on the Bissell advertises its internal heater, the effectiveness of this feature doesnt quite live up to the hype. The machine uses hot tap water, and then proceeds to warm the solution by another 10 degrees. This works well for our moderate cleaning purposes, but isnt as powerful as one might expect from Bissells marketing.
We have tested the cleaner in several rooms, including high traffic areas like the front hall and family room. The results have been consistent and in line with our expectations. While it in no way makes worn carpet look brand new, it did do a very nice job of revitalizing and sterilizing the areas. Our beige carpeting was lightened quite a few shades (evidence supported by the VERY dirty water which was emptied each time). The floors are now presentable for entertaining, and we feel more comfortable knowing our son isnt playing on years of ground-in dirt.
Overall, we are satisfied with this purchase. The machine does not achieve the results of professional deep cleaning, which is important to know going in. If you are expecting miracles, you will need to make a more significant investment. For routine cleanings to brighten up your carpets, this cleaner does a fine job for the money.
