lshalliwell's Full Review: Bissell 9400 ProHeat Upright Wet/Dry Vacuum
I recently acquired a new puppy. She is the best, but living in an apartment, the carpeting is beige and very cheap. My housebreaking efforts showed some of the failures, so I had the carpets steam cleaned. The stains came back within a week, even though the dog is now housebroken. I borrowed a friend's Bissell Pro Heat and was really impressed with the job it did before the unit stopped working. When I looked to see what the problem was, I realized that although the unit worked great, there was a large accumulation of pet hair wrapped around the brush as my friend has two cats and two dogs.
I went out and purchased my own unit at Wallmart for $178.00 and have been most happy and very impressed with the job that it did. I cleaned 850 square feet of carpeting in 1 afternoon. The carpet cleaner has several different settings that mix the shampoo and water together for different stages of dirt and stains. It also has a rinse setting which uses only water.
The brushes really get deep inside the carpet fibers and bring the nap back. The shampoo itself does an excellent job of lifting stains, both from the pets, but also from grease, dirt, outdoor grime and whatever else you can dump on a carpet. The extractor unit takes back most of the water, so the carpet dries very quickly.
It also has a hand attachment with it, that I used on my upholstered furniture. I vacuumed the carpet and furniture extremely well prior to using the shampooer, but still got up a surprising amount of dirt. The clean water and dirty water don't mix, although the unit uses the same tank for both. There is a bladder that hold the clean water, while the dirty water extracted surrounds the bladder and pours out of a separate section.
The Bissell did a much better job than the commercial cleaning service, and was cheaper.
