| lou432triston's Full Review: Bissell 6590 CleanView Bagless Upright Vacuum |
After hearing all the hoopla about the Dyson vacuums, I decided I would possibly buy one. I felt like I was missing out on something. After a lot of research, the Dyson did not pan out to be that great, but I did narrow down my search to the Bosch Cyclone Jet and the Bissell Cleanview Power Trak (supposedly just as good and waaayyy cheaper). I've read really good reviews on both.
The deciding factor was the local WalMart actually had the Bissell in stock so I could get it down on the floor and check it out first hand. I found this vacuum cleaner to be well built and have a nice solid feel to it. The attachments, canisters, and filters all snap in nicely. No cheap-o tabs. They conform to the vac and don't flop around when it is in motion. It handled so well in the store that I decided to go ahead and give it a try.
The assembly was a breeze, just one screw, but it does require a screwdriver with an extension handle. I, like the other reviewers, was amazed at how much this vac picked up on the first trial. After going over just the living area, I decided to open the canister and take a skeptical look. There was a mound of hair in there about the size of a grapefruit. I had no idea how much Pug hair was embedded in my carpets that the old vac (a relatively new Sharp) was leaving behind, due to the fact that I had just vacuumed yesterday. I knew my dog shed, but not that much! I was quite impressed I must say. It does a good job at picking up close to the walls and baseboards.
I also like the fact that it has 3 filters: an upper filter, pre-motor, and post-motor filter. The post-motor filter is actually the HEPA filter. The first 2 can be simply pulled out and washed, the HEPA has to be replaced when it gets dirty. It also has an indicator on the front to tell lazy people like me that it is time to clean or change the filters, which hopefully will extend it's life. I think that is a fabulous feature if it really works. There was not even a hint of dust or yucky smell in the air like when I used my other vac. It was very easy to push on the floor. I have low pile, and had to turn the selector all the way down on the height adjustment knob, which I thought was a little odd. The cord is 30 feet long. I usually have to unplug at least once to do the living area, but not with this machine. Somehow that plugging and unplugging seemed to make the job twice as bad.
I love the looks of this vac as well. It is indigo blue with lime green filters. It looks much more expensive than it actually is. I think I was really looking for a reason to take this vac back so I could try the Bosch, but I can't find one so far. I really wish I could have gotten my hands on a Bosch to compare the 2, but if this vac continues to do as well as on the first trial, I will be happy with my purchase. It also cost half of what the Bosch does.
