This review is for the ProHeat Pet Upright Deep Cleaner, Purple Zing (yes, part of its name), model 89104. It's very similar to the 8910 listed here, but has a different attachment for the hose.

I had owned a Bissell model 1695 cleaner since 1998 (!), which finally called it quits and decided to stop sucking anything. I had kept it going with baling wire, duct tape and Velcro, mostly repairing broken latches. The newer model is better in (almost) every way. The biggest reason, I'm sure, is the built-in heater -- the hotter water cleans much more effectively than my old, non-heater version.
--excellent cleaning, especially when followed up by one or more hot rinses.
--carpet dries more quickly than with non-heated steamers.
--deep cleaning accessory (with pet version) is VERY effective at removing tough stains.
--auxiliary tools are easy to use -- hoses already connected.
--upholstery cleaner easy to use, very effective.
--no solution mixing required -- comes in separate container. Also easy to switch between detergent and rinse options.
--two-in-one tank is very easy to use. Dirty water tank is very easy to clean.
--capacity of tanks is quite small, must be emptied/refilled often.
--cord could be longer.
--irritating hose storage design makes it easy to knock off or damage the cleaning attachment on one side of the unit (same clumsy design as my 1998 model).
--would be helpful if the front vacuuming "slot" was made of the same softer, more forgiving, polyproplene as the tank. The existing hard plastic is prone to damage.
--controls on front of tank not visible when standing behind machine. Easy to forget to change detergent/rinse and floor/accessory options.
A few other comments:
--the pet cleaning accessory attachment has a brush and several rows of deep rubber "fingers". I was skeptical, but this thing is VERY effective at removing stains. Evidently, the fingers can burrow right down to the base of the carpet, loosening stuff. I've removed stains that I honestly didn't think would every come out.
--in my opinion, RINSING with clean hot water is the most important step in cleaning, which is why I bought this (slightliy) deluxe model with a separate cleaning fluid tank, so it was easy to switch between detergent and rinse mode.
I usually clean a room once with detergent, wait 5-10 minutes, then go back over it with a rinse. Often, the rinse will remove almost as much dirt as the initial washing. It also removes the sticky detergent reside that can attract new dirt. I even did a second hot rinse on one particularly nasty section of carpet the following day, and it pulled out even MORE dirt. (This makes sense because the carpet stayed damp for several hours after the initial cleaning and rinse, giving the moisture more time to soften dirt.)
--This unit (and my older model) do a good job with pet hair (and my black dog could easily win a "shedder of the year" contest). Either the steamer vacuums it up, or it spits it out behind the machine in wet globs that are easy to pick up. However, you should always vacuum first.
--I can't speak yet to the overall reliability of this model (I've only owned it a month), but I do have a comment regarding other reviews complaining about cracks, broken roller brushes, etc.: This is a CONSUMER UNIT. It's made of PLASTIC. You can't smash it into things, drop it, or roll it over a bunch of debris on the floor. You have to clean off the underside occasionally, and cut off hair, carpet strands, etc. that get wrapped around the roller. If you DON'T want to be careful with it, then you need a commercial model, which will cost a lot more money.
Amount Paid (US$): 140
