I have 2 preschoolers, a small home day care, and dog. Things are constantly being spilled on the carpet and on the fabric covered kitchen chairs. When I saw an ad for the Bissell Spot Lifter Cordless on TV I thought it would be a great item to have. So when my husband asked me what I wanted for Christmas this was one of the items I asked for.
HOW WELL DOES IT WORK?
It actually works quite well. You spray the solution onto the spot and then you suck out the spot and the solution with the hand held unit. This is a good method of cleaning spots since whenever a spill occurs you do not want to rub it further into the carpet. This is a mistake that a lot of people make. The spray solution kind of pulls the spill to the surface of the carpeting and the unit pulls that up. Stains are lifted up from the carpet. It even works pretty well on old stains too.
SO WHY HAS IT BEEN SITTING IN MY CLOSET FOR THE PAST 4 MONTHS?
Like so many appliances with the rechargeable battery packs I have noticed that the batteries just don't stay charged very long. You have to make sure that the battery is charged at all times in order to use the lifter. It really stinks when you have a spill and you realize you forgot to re-charge the battery. And even when you do re-charge the battery the battery will often not make it through an entire clean up. And then you are not only stuck with the original spill but, also the solution you sprayed on there. It can leave you with quite a mess to deal with. Keeping the battery charged seems to be a full time job. And I have better things to do. It is just easier to get out my .98 can of foam carpet spray from Walmart. (Yes that is a plug. This stuff works just as well as Resolve and at my Walmart it is under a buck)
WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THE BATTERIES?
Well the first charge up takes 24 hours. So if you buy a Spot Lifter Cordless I suggest you take it out of the box as soon as you get home and charge up the battery so it will be ready for that next spill. After all of this charging it seems like the life of the battery is less than 10 minutes. But don't worry after another 12 hours of charging it will be like brand new.
The battery is internal, you put the pointy end of the cord into the machine and then simply plug it into the wall to re-charge.
WHAT IS THE REST OF THE UNIT LIKE?
Well it is pretty compact I would say it is just over 12 ½ inches long. Looking at it I would describe it as a handle sitting in between the sucking mechanism and the formula mix area. I know that is a pretty sad description. But that is what it looks like.
The front is the sucking part, and the catching part. It is also where you may want to attach the scrubbing brushes. (It comes with 2). The back of the unit is where you add the solution and water mixture.
WHERE DO YOU GET THE SOLUTION?
Well it comes with a little bottle of solution. And they say don't use anything else besides that solution in it. (Doesn't that just scream come and give us more of your money?) I have seen the solution at Walmart and many different hardware stores that sell the Bissell Spotlifter Cordless Deep Cleaner.
HOW DO YOU USE THE PRODUCT?
When you happen upon a stain you quickly mix the formula and water together inside the formula cup. It is easy to know how much of each because it has lines to guide you. Re-attach the formula cup. Hold the front part of the unit over the stain. Then push the gray button located conveniently below the handle. Spray the spot and suck up everything with the front unit.
The Bissell Spotlifter Cordless Deep Cleaner works well. It does what it is meant to do. And I was pleased with that aspect of it. It is simple to use, and light weight. I also found it to be fairly reasonably priced. It is made of a hard durable plastic so I would say that it has good durability. For these reasons I would recommend this item.
However, as with most cordless house hold items the battery life is short lived and the unit will actually quite working on you in the middle of a clean up. This could leave you with more of a mess than you started with. For this reason I do not use this item very often.
If were to ask me if I think you should buy it I would tell you that depends. If you don't mind getting on your knees and cleaning a stain the good old fashioned but reliable way then you could probably do with out this. If you hate to clean and don't want to stay on your knees for a long time you may want to invest in this. Just be warned that you will need to clean up quickly or else be stuck with a bigger mess.
