It may claim to be tough but it's not tough enough for Fido's accidents...

Pros: Bissell is a reputable company
Cons: Not for pet "accidents"; doesn't work well as a pre-cleaner
The Bottom Line: If you need a product for your dog's occasional accident, look for something else. If you need a product for your child's occasional spills, this might fit the bill.

| Stephy's Full Review: Bissell Tough Stain Remover 22 Ounce |
When I purchased my Bissell carpet shampooer, there was a Bissell Tough Stain Remover bottle included in the box. I have also seen this product at Target for about $6. According to the front label of the bottle, this product 'Penetrates and Loosens Tough Stains and Embedded Dirt before Deep Cleaning' but when you turn the bottle around, there are also directions to use it as an instant spot remover.
As a Pre-Cleaner...
Maybe my carpeting doesn't get dirty enough but when I have used this product prior to using the carpet shampooer, there has been no difference than the times that I use the carpet shampooer alone.
As a Spot Remover...
This is not effective for animal messes. While it should help to remove the stain, it does not remove the smell so you should use a product with an enzyme agent that is formulated for pet odors. I always use a separate spot remover for this purpose.
For other messes, this product works as long as you tackle the clean-up right away. (Although I will put a disclaimer here, I have not had a chance to test this out with a mess such as red wine which is known to leave a deep stain.) When I have attempted to use this for a dried-on 'mystery' stain, it was not effective in removing it.
Applying the Product
The product application is easy. You'll want to clean up the messy area as much as possible before applying. You'll shake the bottle then spray the desired area. You should wait five minutes for the product to penetrate the stain and then you should follow with either the carpet shampooer or sponge up with a clean cloth.
The bottle tells you to test a small area of your carpet for colorfastness before using this product. Personally, I have not had any issues but my carpet is a light cream color; I do not know if there would be any issues with a more vibrant carpet color.
