three_ster's Full Review: Bissell Velocity Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
The failure of our last work vacuum led to the purchase of the Bissell 3950 Velocity Bagless Vacuum. The intent was to purchase one that was high-powered, and would get the job done on a large carpeted area, as well as on linoleum tiled floors. Out of the box, assembly was slightly more involved than with smaller vacuums, as bolts and screws were needed to complete the 13 steps of attaching all of the pieces. It didnt take very long to complete the assembly though, and as long as you follow the easy directions, it should be a piece-of-cake for anyone.
Once everything was set-up, the first view of the vacuum was had, but in my opinion this model is not all that attractive to the eye. Intermixed between the parts are panels of lavender and many see-through components designed to let you see what the cleaning-process is like during the action. I'm not so sure it is a good thing to be able to see the "dirt-container", because when the dust builds up, in clings to the inside walls, making the vacuum appear to be dirtier than it really is. Aesthetically, the Bissell 3950 has a long way to go, but when it can perform well, I guess you dont need to worry that much about appearances.
This is a powerful 12 amp upright vacuum, with a HEPA filtration system, and edge cleaning features. It has a cleaning head that spans 15 inches from side-to-side, and has a hose reach of 14 feet when fully extended. An extremely nice feature, is that the cord is 35 feet long, giving the ability to clean large rooms with a high distance from a plug-in. Included with the vacuum are a crevice tool, extension wand, curved hose wand, dusting brush, and a turbobrush that's best used on upholstery. All of the tools are easy to attach and put to use at your own convenience.
On the front of the machine is an air-flow indicator, which lets you know when the flow has been reduced by dirty filters or clogs in the hose. It stays green when it is clear, and turns from red to black as a clog builds. When in use the color may vary a little, but only worry about that if the color is constantly changing. In use the vacuum is very impressive, as the power is perfect for picking up paper scraps, paperclips and staples, gravel, dirt, and dust particles. When you are finished cleaning, you just empty the dirt container and rinse it out before replacing. There are additional tips in the pamphlet about cleaning the motor and filter when it comes time for that.
Though lacking in appearance, I really like the way this vacuum provides continuous power while in use. The wide-cleaning foot is great for getting into those nooks, and the handle is long enough to make any cleaning job easier. Highly recommended for ease of use and limited maintenance.
